Morris also can earn a $5,000 bonus each year his team scores 975 or higher on the NCAA’s annual Academic Progress Report. He can pick up an additional $2,500 bonus every year his team’s APR improves from the previous year, based on the NCAA’s most recent report in 2009.
The UMass football team scored a 927 in the ’09 report, slightly below the 935 average in the Football Championship Subdivision. The first chance for the Minutemen to improve the mark under Morris will come with the release of the 2010 report in May.

What is the CAA average? If it's published, it must be based on the average of releasable figures. I know of at least one school (my alma mater) that does not release coaching salaries.

What sucks about these incentive clauses is that there is a temptation for coaches to steer recruits into underwater basketweaving when they have the ability and interest to do things like engineering just for the sake of keeping the overall GPA up.
I hope none of our coaches actually do this. But with a sizeable fiduciary incentive, the temptation would be sky high.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Have you actually ever tried underwater basketweaving? It ain't easy, lemme tell you - the fibers get all mushy and clingy when they're wet and then the whole thing's just impossible to work with - so don't knock it until you major in it...

Morris could have a 100% Grad rate and pick up his 5k bonus, but if doesn't win next year he won't be around. He may or may not have a guarantee clause if he is fired or not, not sure. I will give him some slack for his first year with qb and turnover woes, but I wasn't crazy about his hiring in the first place.
