FL St Sen: More Tax Breaks For Films, Unless Have Gay Charac

Post by UNHWildCats »

A Florida state senator is pushing for new legislation that would increase tax breaks for the movie industry but deny the same incentives to films featuring gay characters.

Current Florida law grants tax credits on productions considered "family friendly" -- films that omit smoking, sex, nudity or profane language,

But in a bid to attract more movie production to Florida, Republican Rep. Stephen Precourt of Orlando is pushing a bill that would increase the credit and expand the field of disqualified productions as those that include any "exhibit or implied act" of nontraditional family values and gratuitous violence, the Palm Beach Post reported Tuesday.

Precourt said he's not targeting the gay community but that shows with gay characters would not be something he'd want "to invest public dollars in."

"Think of it as like Mayberry," Precourt reportedly told the newspaper, referring to The Andy Griffith Show. "That's when I grew up -- the '60s. That's what life was like. I want Florida to be known for making those kinds of movies: Disney movies for kids and all that stuff. Like it used to be, you know?"

Would it be possible to have a "Gay Forum"? I mean, Christ on a CRUTCH there isn't a SINGLE OTHER protected class of poster here who trys to cram every single newspaper article down our throats (no pun intended)....I realize it's the offseason and all but damn I get tired of seeing multiple threads regarding "gay" this and "homosexual" that....

I'm only responsible for 57% of the 'gay' threads on the first page.

If they're using the word "homosexual" progress is being made.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth

You don't see the Black guys here pumping every article regarding racial equality.
You don't see the women braying on and on about gender equality.

Do you see State Senators wanting to discriminate against Black films? Women-themed films?

Easy to be on your high-horse when you have NEVER, EVER faced any type of discrimination. When you have never had to fear being fired because of who you are, not because of the work you do.

What gets real old is DISCRIMINATION.

And people that seem to get sand in their vaginas over people struggling to achieve what everyone else takes for granted.

Now if we can get people like this Senator to stop discriminating against gays, then we will be making real progress.

How is posting a thread shoving anything in your face? Again, don't want to face the fact that this country discriminates against people that are your friends, family, neighbors, etc, then don't open the thread.

Jon, nobody bags on you about the LGBT topics you post because you aren't a one-trick pony. You post and discuss a lot of other topics (...socialism, envirowhackoism, :finger: ...). The issue isn't so much about "Gay" topics as it is the extraneous, incessant threads about every word, every person, every law, every activity that is controversial as perceived by the LGBT community.

You know how I feel about environmental zealots. Every day I read between 3 and a dozen articles that "support" my viewpoint. I do not, however, post them. I will argue that IMHO, the environmental zealousy has resulted in loss of liberties (4th, 5th and 8th amendment infringement) and diminshed quality of life for most Americans, yet, despite my passionate belief, I REFRAIN from posting these articles with knee-jerk regularity...

...because I know that perturbs other posters.

Just common sense.

And this "single-minded" overrepresentation is a complaint that has been aired before, both here and at AGS...maybe it's time T listened.

I can't HELP but face it Jon, even when I want to escape to a football message board. It's shoved in our FACE at every turn.

Trust me on this, Travis: blathering on and on and on and on like a little bitch about your lack of "rights" on a FOOTBALL MESSAGE BOARD isn't making you any friends and surely isn't HELPING your cause. And the fact that you can't seem to get that message says VOLUMES about you.

...

The Equal Rights Amendment was never ratified...

...and the Civil Rights Act largely passed due to non-violent civil demonstrations that did not call for the wholesale rejection (and PROSECUTION) of religious sects.

Try again.

I post more then 2 threads about the Red Sox and people tell me to shut up and talk about something else.

I post more then 2 threads about Hillary Clinton and people tell me to shut up and talk about something else.

There is no pleasing you fucking idiots. You accuse me of talking about one subject and nothing more when that is a bunch of crap and I pointed out earlier, a hair more then half the gay threads on the first page were posted by me, I am not the only person posting them. Appaholic did, Mark did, yet you feel the need to attack me. Well fuck off ok. You all can fuck off.

If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight.
