Agreed. UD has ~11k season ticket holders and they hold back 2.5k for students. So in a 22k seat stadium, there are 8.5k single seats per game (a minimum since UD's students typically don't even come in those numbers). Single game ticket sales start in early August, and I've never seen a game at UD sold out any earlier than 2 weeks before the game, and most of the times the sell out isn't acheived until maybe 2-3 days before gameday. That gives most people anywhere from 1-4 months in which to purchase tickets. Visiting teams get 500 tickets, and JMU typically returns some portion of this to UD. There is more than ample time, considering the schedules are known 9-10 months in advance, to make plans, purchase the widely available tickets, and get to the game, assuming the fanbase is a decent travelling fanbase. Other schools with supposedly smaller fan bases (Richmond, W&M, UMass among others) come to UD with larger number of fans. Apparently they are able to navigate the overwhelming task of planning a roadtrip more than a day in advance. :lol:
WRONG on the 500 ticket requirement. The requirement is 1k.

Also stating that the requirement is 1,000:
"In 2011, when the Monarchs becomes a member of the Colonial Athletic Association for football, they must set aside 1,000 tickets for visiting teams."
http://hamptonroads.com/2009/08/odu-foo ... ter-supply" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The 1,000 set aside for the visitors follows a Colonial Athletic Association rule. Though ODU will not play as a CAA member until 2011, the Monarchs intend to abide by that rule from the start.
http://www.odusports.com/sports/m-footb ... 09aaa.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As far as JMU goes:
about 200 will go to football
about 100 will go to students/SDC members
700 left for Duke Club Members

So even IF JMU returned some of those 1k tickets in the @ UD games in 05' and 07', it couldn't have been very many. UR, W&M, and UMass bringing more than 1k? UR and W&M don't bring 1k to JMU, and UMass, a 5-6 hr drive? Yeah, right :lol:

And I don't think UD brought more than 1k to JMU in 04' (which wasn't a sellout). Sure didn't in 06'. 08' looked like a couple hundred.
Wow, so JMU actually returns well over 500 tickets to UD each year? And can't use any of those tickets to bring their band? You certainly paint a poorer picture of JMU's inability to travel out of state than I first imagined. Thanks for bringing this to light - any idea why JMU returns so many tickets???

If you want the band there, talk to your athletic department. they haven't invited us and have made it clear they do not want the MRDs there

I think it was 1997 when the MRDs were last at UD. I don't think they appreciated that we were bigger and better than their band (and we actually memorized our music instead of using flip-folders).

Nope, you guys just need to pay for the seats they use. Funny, DSU, Towson, UMass, and West Chester bring their bands everytime, march during halftime and post game, and they never seem to have a problem doing so. And UMass is the best band in the CAA and UD certainly has no problem hosting them (heck, UMass's band even showed up one year to play post game of a UD game that didn't even involve UMass - that's how silly your "bigger and better" comment is). And heck, it's not like other JMU fans are using part of the official allottment - should be plenty of seats available for purchase! :lol:

Holyshitballs!! I think I saw stuff about the host school supplying seats for an opposing teams band or something like that.

Maybe UD should pay for the JMU bands transportation to the game as well.:lol:

-In 05'-07' JMU didn't return anywhere close to 500 tickets,as there were a heck of a lot more than 500 JMU fans there (I was at both games), and I doubt too many JMU fans were getting their tickets from other than JMU.

-I already acknowledged that JMU didn't bring squat this past fall to UD, only 1-2 hundred. After losing 4 straight games falling to 2-5/0-4 were out of the playoff race, everyone thought UD was going to win, and no one foresaw JMU going on a 4 game CAA win streak.

BTW when I wrote:
"about 200 will go to football
about 100 will go to students/SDC members
700 left for Duke Club Members"
I meant to say that would be the allottment breakdown for the JMU @ UR game in URs new tiny stadium. I'm sure a few hundred more will get them from UR, stubhub, etc, but will be a fraction of the about 8k of 16k+ crowd in 08'.

Wow, if the rule has been 1,000 in the past CAA teams don't travel very well. The only team I can think of that had more than 500 fans at a game was Richmond for the mulitiple OT game. No other fan base has come anywhere close to 1,000 at the Tub.

Let me assure those of you who are leary of Frisco to not worry. Tons of things to do within minutes of the stadium. Right across the street are several restaurants and a few more within walking distance. Let me suggest Manny's (Tex-Mex), Babe's (awesome home cooking), Loughranns (pub; right across from PHP), and Matitios (Tex-Mex right across street). If you are bringing the fam, then stay at one of the hotels near the Dallas North Tollway and Hwy 121; these are near Stonebriar Mall, Stars Center (where the NHL Dallas Stars train) and Dr. Pepper Ballpark (home of the Rangers AA baseball team). Also if you are looking a little upscale, then hit the Westin Stonebriar Resort or the area around The Shops of Legacy (shopping/hotels/dinding) which is technically in Plano but is right on the Border with Frisco.

I'm in section J (next to the visitors section) and you are correct; Richmond had good numbers there in '08. Biggest in '09 had to be the UMass game, and many were parents wearing Band jackets.

I sat next to a very nice couple who were UMass fans at the game last year - they had bought them off a season tix holder who had some extras for the game. Not exactly the best game to watch from a UMass perspective last year, but some very nice fans nonetheless.

Well counting the band UMass couldve had close to 1000, but its difficult to measure when you get beat to a pulp right from the get-go.

I didn't know UMass brought their band with them. If that's the case, the very large UMass band, with band and staff over 400, plus probably a couple hundred parents/family members of the band, I bet the band was responsible for over half their crowd.

Like has been already said on here, JMU doesn't bring their band to UD (don't think they do out of state games).
