First I think the teams on the schedule are great, just the way the schedule is laid out is bad. 5 straight road games to 4 different states and 3 different times zones is just brutal. We have Fresno State to thank for that. They were first scheduled on Sept. 4 but moved the game to Oct. 2nd so they could play Cincinatti on National TV. Can not blame them, but it sure screwed our schedule. Before that Oct. 2 was a bye week and we would not of had more than 2 straight road games anywhere on the schedule.

I'll let you know as the date gets closer....the Griz Goddess and myself usually take a weekend trip somewhere around that time (as it's close to my birthday), and we LOVE that area....sounds like a match made in heaven!!

I agree. But at least it looks like "the farm extension" is going to finish the season with at least a 2 game losing streak. :thumb:

Have CP pony up another 100k and it will happen. Regardless of the money, it would be a game to have on the schedule. It's too bad our AD doesn't feel the same way.

Maybe in 2012 and 2013 when I think we are allowed to schedule 12 games.

Or when both CP and Sac State are in the WAC. Then Wanless can't wiggle out of the match-up.

Wow, Montana, Texas St., McNeese St., and Fresno St. in one stretch with the last 3 on the road. Cal Poly could be staring a 1-4 record straight in the face. Of course, they could be 4-1 too, but that's a pretty brutal stretch. And 5 straight road games? Who in the hell does that? Are the coach and AD on speaking terms??

First Cal Poly has to schedule 7 OOC games each year and they are a long way from most FCS schools. Second Idaho State bought out of their trip to SLO late to take a game with Georgia. Second year in a row we have been screwed by Idaho State. Third, Fresno State came to Poly late with move the game from Sept.4 to Oct. 2 or we will just buy it out. That late in the game it left Cal Poly with little options.

THIS is the biggest issue facing GWFC teams every year. :ohno:

It is also an issue that may eventually lead Cal Poly to moving up. I think if they had a stable large football conference they would love to stay in the FCS, just getting more and more difficult without one. I bet the Dakota's both bolt for another conference when their transition is through just like the XDSU's did. Which would probably leave Poly with one of two options, move up or quit.

Would love to see the Big Sky take them as a football only member. It would solve all of our problems. I know it will not happen, but one can dream.

I disagree with the logic there SS. Football only to BSC makes sense, but a full on move up (assuming WAC accepts CP, which they probably would) would incur larger travel costs for ALL WAC sports. In this case why not just make a full move to the BSC? It would save the additional scholarships needed and other additional costs associated with a move up. :twocents:

Solution to the Great West problem.

North Dakota, South Dakota and Eastern Illinois to the MVFC. Put the 4 Dakota's, UNI and Missorui State in the MVFC West, and the three directional Illinois', both ISU's and Youngstown in the MVFC East.

Cal Poly, SUU and Davis to the Big Sky. The Montanas, EWU, PSU, ISU and NorCol in the Big Sky North. Sac St, Davis, Poly, NAU, Weber & SUU in the Big Sky South (or go division less with preferred rivals and rotate the rest)

Also, the OVC would then have 9 teams and thus could play everyone else.

Kill three birds with two stone. 8-)

Here's what I like about the schedule:

We get our chance at Fresno State, which is a really close road trip and a historic rivalry that doesn't happen much anymore.

We get Montana, Davis at home which will be sellouts (actually not sure if the students are back at Poly yet for Montana game, but should be sold out irregardless) and UND at home- which should also be a sellout being after last year. Our D-II game, the Humboldt State game will be the first of the season, and is against an in-state school, so it should be very well attended as well.

So, as far as home games they are positioned nicely to get a good turnout.

The big road trip is going to be really tough- but we like playing the best teams in the country around here and aren't afraid of playing anybody (Can't be said for every FCS team out there) :kisswink:

EWU knows quite a bit about pointless season. Thanks for the opinion from someone who would know. I for one think that you are wrong. Is it a tough road to the playoffs, yes. Is it an impossible one, no. :coffee:

I hope to see CP back on EWU's schedule. Solid opponent and not too far of a trip. SLO is an amazing area (I'd eventually like to live there). Maybe next time we have a game I can make it down.

EDIT: I forgot to look at our 2011 schedule. Pencil me in for 11/12/11.
