He comes via Fork Union Military...not far down the road from JMU, UR, W&M and so on, all of which are well aware of what is at Fork Union any given year...I wonder if YSU managed a steal or this guy has baggage? Exciting for YSU anyways...

You can't tell me UMass posters wouldn't be excited if they had a Devlin, Corp, or Paulus type player transferring to UMass.....

Of course, the difference with at least someone like Devlin isn't the stars he had coming out of high school, but the fact that he had already shown on a college football field that he was well deserving of the hype. This guy, right now, is just hype. Plenty of guys like that never pan out to anything. We'll see in 2-3 years if the stars were accurate, just like we will with the no-star guys.

Ok, so if the stars mean nothing, then gee, you could say UDs class with those handfull of 2 star guys is just as good as FL or USC with all those 4 or 5 star guys. Gee, I'm glad that JMU's recruting class could be as good as FL's, USC's, or TX's, as the stars means nothing. :D

But wait, how come a majority of the 5 star guys make it to the pros within 5 years (Lemming has stats on this) (and probably a good chunk of the 4 star guys) but only maybe 1%-2% of the no star guys if the stars means nothing?

Stars don't mean "nothing" but they are so vastly overrated by ESPN/Souts Inc, Rivals/Yahoo, and fans that it isn't even really funny.

Like I've said before, I worked for rivals. I was doing a article on a kid from Louisiana, he was a 1 (maybe 2) star. He had some really good numbers his JR year, but didn't have any offers worth noting on the Rivals sites. It was mostly FCS/Sun Belt teams that offered him early. He must have sent tape out, or something, because it was off season when this happened. Within about a week or 2 span he got offers from schools like Texas, Arakansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, etc... He jumped from what he was to a top 25 player at his position and a 5 star recruit almost over night. He didn't finish a 5 star recruit because his SR numbers didn't improve and teams like Texas cooled on him. He finished a 4 star player. However, that goes to show that stars are extremely arbitrary.

I can only speak for myself...and no, I would not be excited...I get excited with what they do on the field, during games...

You can buy into the "system" if you wish...its a free country...but for every three or four star player who succeeds, there are a couple who flop...

And there are players that get no recognition by the system, and turn out to be game changers... :twocents:

Sure for every 3-4 star player who succeeds there are a couple who flop. And for every thousand players that get no recognition by the system you may get a handful of game changers. Throw enough sh*t against a wall and some of it will stick. Got to play the odds. Would you take Florida's or USC's recruiting class over UMass's?

Actually in some thread on AGS last yr I think people were talking about where they were from and you said you went to Woodberry. I replied to you a couple pages later I went there too. You never said anything more. I was there way before you time. Late 80s/early 90s.

Haha, wow, don't remember that at all. I must not have checked back on that thread.

Very cool though. Small world.

I loved bitching about it while I was there... but, it doesn't get much better than taking off for the Rapidan with a fishing pole and a fat lip after classes.

Next time App and JMU play we should share some drinks. I'm not nearly as an annoying douchebag in real life as I am in the political lounge. ;)

10-4....surprising though, I don't recall seeing that many liberals at Woodberry when I was there...
