Great West Non-Conference Schedules

Post by SUUTbird »

(As they stand right now)

Cal Poly Mustangs:
-Sept. 4th: @ Fresno State
-Sept. 11th: Montana
-Sept. 25th: @ McNeese State
-Oct. 9th: @ Old Dominion
(Mustangs have only 8 games including their conference slate so expect more games to be added)

North Dakota Fighting Sioux:
-Sept. 4th: @ Idaho
-Sept. 11th: @ Northern Illinois
-Sept. 18th: Northeastern State
-Sept. 25th: Northwestern State
-Oct. 30th: Lamar
-Nov. 13th: @ Montana
(Sioux have 2 open dates, look for one of those to be filled by either a d2 or possibly a NEC/Big South team)

South Dakota Coyotes:
-Sept. 4th: @ Central Florida
-Sept. 11th: @ Minnesota
-Sept. 18th: Northwest Oklahoma State
-Sept. 25th: @ North Dakota State
-Oct. 16th: Northern Iowa
-Oct. 30th: Northern Colorado
-Nov. 13th: @ Lamar

Southern Utah Thunderbirds
-Sept. 4th: @ Wyoming
-Sept. 11th: San Diego
-Sept. 18th: @ San Jose State
-Sept. 25th: @ Texas State
-Oct. 2nd: Northern Arizona
-Nov. 6th: Dixie State
-Nov. 13th: @ Eastern Washington

UC-Davis Aggies:
-Sept. 4th: @ California
-Sept. 11th: Portland State
-Sept. 18th: @ San Diego
-Sept. 25th: @ Weber State
-Oct. 2nd: @ San Jose State
-Oct. 23rd: South Alabama
-Nov. 20th: Sacramento State

Personally i think that the Great West as one if not the best Non Conference slates in the whole FCS. I can easily see at least 1 of these teams getting a playoff berth this year (Cal Poly also if they get a few more games) and even winning a few playoff contests. Looks like the Great West is shaping up to be a very good football conference and with San Diego playing both SUU and UC-Davis maybe they are considering moving into the Great West. Also i love seeing South Dakota playing @ NDSU this year...will be quite nice to see the Bison lose to the Yotes :thumb:

Hopefully one of these teams, other than SUU, will be traveling to Flagstaff.

I would love to see either Texas Tech or Boston College drop Weber so Weber can play at Cal Poly instead, would even play at North Dakota as well

I always enjoy seeing WSU on Cal Poly's schedule. Usually a great game (last year was the exception).

To me, the Manure Pile OOC seems adequate, and the Cow Poly OOC looks to be OK if they can get three decent games to go with the good ones they already have.

UND seems pretty lacking in terms of quality.

USD and SUU look to be DIW. Those OOC scheds would kill anyone. (Well, USD more so than SUU. SUU's looks to be just a TAD easier, though not by much.)

I think North Dakota though their OOC schedule does seem easier would help them get an at large spot just because of the teams they play (2 FBS, 3 FCS, 1 d2) and then add in the GWC opponents and you have a pretty decent schedule. Also look for the Sioux to try to add another FCS opponent which would really go a long way to getting an at large bid in the playoffs.

I do agree that Southern Utah and South Dakota though having the best OOC schedules that they are the toughest and will have to win all their games without injuries as both teams dont have a bye week...it could be a long year for the Thunderbirds and Yotes :twocents:

In terms of UC-Davis i think their OOC schedule is great as well since they play 3 Big Sky, 2 FBS and 1 D2 in south Alabama who will be moving up to either FBS or the FCS ranks very shortly. Im expecting at least 1 Great West team in the playoffs this year :thumb:

UND isn't playoff eligible yet. As much as it pains me to give them credit ;) , USD does really have a good schedule going on there. Much tougher than in years past. SUU does as well. Pretty decent OCC schedule overall for the Great West. Lots of FBS and quality FCS teams along with some cupcakes scheduled as well.

USD isn't playoff eligible either.

With the exception of the FBS games, I don't really see that USD has that brutal of OOC schedule. UNI is nails but we finally get them at home, other than that I'm figuring on W's for the rest of them. Yes, that includes that date in Fargo.

It is the best one you guys have had so far. Not as many NAIA or DII on it as from the past couple years. Good to get two payday games in while you aren't playoff eligible yet. Get your exposure and the money without sacrificing your chance at a playoff spot. Of course UNI will be tough and I believe NDSU will be too, especially in Fargo. I would guess UNC will be a toss up. Too bad Shepard is gone.
