Ill skip the head-in-hand shot but really FargoBison, you are now an advocate and trying to make the same points I am about NDSU. Tell me again about Bisonville, how they hated others to say what they were about to say, or were already saying themselves.

NDSU is among the largest programs in this division and the largest in the MVFC. It has made a commitment to its athletic department because it sees athletics as an extension of the University and a way to make it grow and build a strong community. Our volleyball team is 31 in national D1 attendance. Our football teams have been competitive for decades. When NDSU rolls into town it is a big game. I give the program 4.5 stars for being what it is.

I give the BISON football team 3 stars for last season. They were a young bunch, 45 freshman, they were in the middle of controversy but still looked like they were the better team against the conferences top teams.

Winning and losing is cyclical. The quality of the program is whats important.
Commitment to athletics huh? Where exactly have the bizon had any success in any sport in DI athletics? Your basketball team plays in a freaking class 3A high school gymnasium.

Its more than just football, which you haven't had any success in either.
To be fair, NDSU did make it to the SuperRegional in Softball last year - which is quite an achievement.

They also made the Big Dance, and recieved a lot of attention for that, especially for Ben Woodside.

We also had a runner finish second in the 800 meters last year at the NCAA championships. I believe NDSU won six conference titles last year, so I would say JBB is right about the commitment to athletics. The only sports that struggle are Men's golf and baseball, which shouldn't be too surprising considering our climate.

Talk to the people that ranked NDSU in the top 10 at the end of the season in 2006 and 2007, it is a long list of people since NDSU was top 10 in every poll. We did play four FBS teams, going 3-1, losing the one game by just a point.

JBB and Fargo Bison are out their fucking minds. It is so great to see them here and making their cases though.because their perception of NDSU's program is pure fantasy and I KNOW they believe it.

It makes me miss guys like TTBF and the more level headed clear thinking Bison posters that are not clouded in this wonderland.

Did you guys see the part where JBB said that NDSU was a 4.5 previously and a 3 last year?

Holy shitballs that is funny stuff!!!

Thanks for the honest appraisal Bison fellers, I'll buy right now.

I have been thinking and I don't think you can give NDSU or any team that hasn't been the FCS for at least 10 years any stars. Just not enough data, trying to force the data by using a five year period just doesn't work, which I found out last night.

As for the top 10 debate, NDSU not being a top 10 team in 2006-2007 is a wonderland that only Montana fans seem to live in. I think every Bison fan that thought we were the top team is an idiot, but those teams were top 10.

Ursus, compare me to JBB???? Come on....

Dude I did think NDSU was a top ten team then but it is also debatable because they didn't qualify to prove it. Now I think they would have had a good chance to win a game or two and maybe three at the time but we don't know so it is debatable. I thought they were there but it isn't a sure thing...hence the use of Silenoz's "debatable" terminology.

I apologize for the JBB thing. :thumb:

Ok, I can agree with that.

Thanks for apology...but if I start posting threads about NDSU joining the Big 10 or NFC North, be sure to smack me over the head by calling me JBB. ;)

I would rate Montana State a 3. We have had 7 straight winning seasons. Made the play offs three times in the last decade with one win. We have three conference championships in the last decade (yes griz fans I know, shared). One National Championship, granted that was back in 1984 but we still have one.

3 is a program that is just on the outside looking in a few playoff trips, but not a perennial playoff team.

A 4 is a team that has multiple playoff trips with a few deep runs (McNeese State, UNI)

A 5 is a team that has made the chipper multiple times with multiple wins (App. State, Montana)

Yes I'm aware, I'm just saying it's justifiable to have the top 8 teams in your poll as those who won a first round game. Add in the better first round losers (Montana was 11-1 with a 1 pt loss to the SOCON champ and McNeese was 11-1 with an FBS win) and a top ten fills up rather quickly.

It's not just wins though (if we're still going by EA's rules). Like Notre Dame is always a 5, even though they haven't won jack shit in quite awhile. It's coming from the fanbase/coach experience/coach prestige/academics/etc. In fact I would bet there are quite a few programs that have had a ton of success in the last decade, but they're only a 2 or 3 in the game.

Maybe I look at it differently than some but I really do look at ANY playoff win as a big accomplishment. They are so tough to win and to be honest the first round is as tough to win out west of the Mississippi as a lot of 2nd rounders in the east.

I could add playoff wins, but I don't think that changes the star ratings, Wofford for example has three wins in 15 years.

For the Big Sky Montana State has 1 win, EWU has 4, NAU 1, WSU 1.

I also can't make UNI a 5* program i don't think. I want to really bad, but we are missing a titile. Although, I'm not as opposed to a 5 for UNI as I am a 4 for NDSU

Yeah, I was just pointing out the obvious for dramatic effect

The worst part is, you add one more year to the list..... and it adds another semi-final to OUR tally

I think recent history for GSU knocks them off the 5-star pedestal...probably more like a 4-4.5 star to me.

I might have to kick you down to a 4.5 upon further review, your record is very similar to GSU but they have more postseason success. I am kind of doing this as I go along.

Eh? ASU has never lost in the championship game.

If you're looking at App over 15 years:
-15 consecutive winning seasons
-11 playoff appearances
-7 conference championships
-5 semifinal appearances (L at Montana, W vs. Furman, W vs. Youngstown State, W vs. Richmond, L at Montana)
-3 straight national championships (UNI, UMass, Delaware)
-1 partridge in a pear tree

True. :thumb: However, Gibbs has developed a reputation of being a veritable morgue as far as fan atmosphere goes. Both visitors and players have commented on how sterile the place can be. I've watched 3 or 4 Wofford games on SportSouth and they were..well, let's just say..the crowds and support leave a lot to be desired, which is a shame considering the product on the field has been good.
