A good move by The Citadel IMO. Looks like the SoCon will be the option conference in the FCS.

Tommy Laurendine began his career at ASU, but transferred to LR after his Soph season.

Very true and that will be very cool to watch. However it means that most other teams in the SOCON will eventually become used to defending against it (as best they can since its a total pain even if you know howPwns wrote: A good move by The Citadel IMO. That is going to be a train wreck. They don't have anyone that has run the option outside of Bodine.

It may or may not be, we will have to wait until the season starts. Yes it will probably be rough in terms of personnel issues (thats what Army is dealing with right now). However the high discipline that their school/football team requires will go a long way in helping them learn the offense quickly, if they have any shortcomings it will be due to personnel not due to learning this offenseeagleskins wrote:That is going to be a train wreck. Also isnt Georgia Southern doing the same exact thing the Bulldogs are? I mean i of course know about your rich history in the Triple Option but you guys are also switching from a spread offense back the the Flexbone and i dont think you have any players there that ran it or am i wrong in that regard?

You mean a Running Back coach who while was at The Citadel as a part of the 1992 SoCon Championship team doesn't count???eagleskins wrote:That is going to be a train wreck. They don't have anyone that has run the option outside of Bodine.
New OL Coach and new OC both Coached triple option type offenses, running back played in one of the most successful triple offense teams The Citadel ever had. I think we have the personnel that can coach the change. The only issue is a young running back corps (lost both freshman from last year) and a young QB group (lost Blanchard to graduation with a year of eligibility left and lost one of the freshman).

Re: El Cid gets a new OC...
GSU has 4 coaches that were either head coaches or OC's at the FCS level that specialized in the triple. Not counting our head coach who has been PJ's #2 in command for 13 years.SUUTbird wrote:It may or may not be, we will have to wait until the season starts. You mean more of a train wreck than El Cid OR GSU have been the past couple years?eagleskins wrote:That is going to be a train wreck. They don't have anyone that has run the option outside of Bodine.
Even in spite of the detour taken over the last 10 years, The Citadel has always been an option team and will be an option team again.
