SPECIAL TEAM DREAMS--and it's your call.
2 HS football prospects. Both seniors.
Prospect #1: Placekicker. Kickoffs to the goal line, not beyond. 3 year hs career FG percentages best you've ever seen-- 40 yds and in-100%, 40-50-95%, 50-55-80%.
Prospect#2: Punter. Another gem! Senior year hang time and distance numbers would easily place him on any NFL All-Pro squad in recent memory.
As your FCS school's football coach, you are so fortunate to be able to add either to your roster...but not both.
Your choice?

Re: SPECIAL TEAM DREAMS--and it's your call.
I have a different special team's dream. Playing ASU, I intercept a pass on an ASU two point conversion, return it for the winning score. I think my nightmares would subside after that.
sorry, now continue.

More often than not, I've seen field goals win games so I'll take #1. That being said, I tend to overlook/underappreciate the field position created by a good punter.

F kickers!
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

This is a cop-out answer, but it depends on what kind of team I have. If we're defense oriented, I take the punter. The field position's too good to pass up.
If we're the Colts/Saints, I take the kicker. Good field position after scores and (almost) guaranteed points on drives that stall.

Kickers do their job or lose the game. That's it.

You heard me.
Should've added a smilie to the above...

Punter....I saw what out punter did for us in 2007 and 2008....then I saw what we watched last year. Punters make a HUGE difference.

Punter. Pinning the other team back deep constantly is a huge weapon.

Punter. Probably the reason we won 3-4 of our games this year by pinning teams deep.

Ya reading this wideright?
Seriously, just because I was a college punter doesn't influence my decision. #2. Sure placekickers score points, but they also leave points off the board quite often. Punters can make a team drive the entire field every time they kick, potentially. I would much rather rely on my offense to get the job done over the kicker.
And speaking from experience, I can admit that I helped my team win several games in my 3 years of punting here. Including 4 games against top-10 teams (yes I'm still aware it's D3 but there are good D3 teams out there).
