McNeese vs Cal Poly 2010
McNeese vs Cal Poly 2010
Looks like we are going to try this home and home thing with Cal Poly again. Hopefully no hurricane this time. Any Cal Poly fans that make the trip are invited to come tailgate with the Geauxcowboys.com group before the game.
And for the Southern fans, note the bolded part.
McNeese football
A historic matchup with LSU headlines McNeese State’s 2010 football schedule as announced today.
The Cowboys and LSU meet Oct. 16 in Baton Rouge and it will be the first such contest between a Louisiana based FCS school and the Tigers. LSU has hosted other FCS teams but McNeese is the first from the home state.
McNeese will also take to the road to play the University of Missouri and will host such opponents as Cal-Poly, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, Nicholls State and Texas State in a five game home slate.
In announcing the schedule, Cowboy athletic director Tommy McClelland said, “We’re excited about the five home games we have scheduled this year. It is our hope that our fans will respond to this type of scheduling by showing their support at the gate.”
Lamar is resuming its football program this season and will be playing a non-conference schedule while Cal Poly is always a top 20 ranked team. The Cowboys and Cal Poly had been set for a 2008 matchup in Lake Charles but had to cancel the game because of a hurricane.
“This is a historic opportunity to play LSU,” McClelland said. “This is something our players, coaches, fans and community are all excited about.”
A year ago the Tigers posted an 9-5 record and played in the Capitol One bowl, winding up ranked No. 17 in the final Associated Press poll. Missouri went 8-5 on the season and played in the Texas Bowl.
Stephen F. Austin shared the Southland Conference title with McNeese last year and advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs.
McNeese had been set to host Southern University in 2010, the Jaguars returning for a game that had been scheduled for 2005 but having to be cancelled because of a hurricane. However, due to conflicts the game could not be arranged.
“We tried hard to make this game happen in Lake Charles,” said McClelland. “However, due to scheduling conflicts with Southern and the SWAC, it became evident that we may not play them in the foreseeable future. Therefore, we mutually agreed to take the buyout and end the series.”
The Cowboys will open the season Sept. 4 at home against Lamar and then travel to play Missouri on Sept. 11. September 18 is an open date and Cal Poly comes in on Sept. 25. The schedule for October calls for the Cowboys to open SLC play Oct. 2 at Northwestern State, host SFA on Oct. 9, play at LSU on Oct. 16 and at Southeastern Louisiana Oct. 24 and then host Nicholls State Oct. 30 for Homecoming.
November’s schedule has McNeese playing at Sam Houston State on Nov. 6, hosting Texas State on Nov. 13 and closing the regular season Nov. 20 at Central Arkansas.
A year ago the Cowboys posted a 9-3 record, tied for the SLC title, ranked No. 12 in the final Sports Network poll.

Sept. 4 Lamar 7 p.m.
Sept. 11 at Missouri TBA

That is a toughie, but it can be done (if we're talking playoffs). ASU played both LSU and Kansas in 2005.dbackjon wrote:Cal Poly is a good pickup.
Tough OOC schedule.
Can't imagine McNeese fans are thrilled with only 5 home games though.
Re: McNeese vs Cal Poly 2010
I guess it is a good year to only have 5 home games as we will be out of the Field House next season due to the Field House Renovation Project. One of the reasons for the two guarantee games next season is to make some money for some of the extras we want to put in the new Field House.Mountaineer wrote:That is a toughie, but it can be done (if we're talking playoffs). Why? Because they've scheduled themselves out of the playoffs?

Glad that McNeese got Cal Poly on the slate to replace Southern...
Glad that Southern paid up - though I would take that check to the bank and make sure it goes through!

We could still win the conference auto-bid and get in. But our chances are a little thin.AZGrizFan wrote:SpeedkingATL wrote:Got to respect that schedule. Wish Cal Poly was coming to Boone this year.![]()

Depending on what happens elsewhere around the country I think they could get in at large if they beat Cal Poly as well as Lamar, go 7-1 in conference but don't get the auto bid, and lose to both LSU and Missouri. That would put them at 8-3 and 7-2 against FCS opponents that count as D-I wins.We could still win the conference auto-bid and get in. But our chances are a little thin.

My guess is that most hard core McNeese fans would take a game at LSU over a home game against anybody the Cowboys would be able to get to come to their place. App State fans missed the real experience there because of all the unusual circumstances with the hurricane coming. But McNeese fans will relish going over there, getting into the pre game tailgaiting and such, and seeing the Cowboys run out onto the Tiger Stadium field. Can't imagine McNeese fans are thrilled with only 5 home games though.

Agreed. I really enjoyed the Cal Poly games. Fortunately they had Gocong and Barden on the teams we played, which only made it more exciting. Especially enjoyed the 2005 gameslycat wrote:Congrats McNeese.

It's all good because over the next couple years the Griz will be visiting and hosting McNeese and ASU in September when the weather will not be a factor in Mizz but it could in SW LA (remember Huntsville in 2004?) We and the Neer fans look forward to it

Montana SOS rank 143
McNeese SOS rank 177
SFA SOS Rank 167
I guess this is the reason a SLC team never even MAKES the NC game?

Re: McNeese vs Cal Poly 2010
Oh c'mon. At least they MAKE the championship game. I don't think Montana needs to apologize for its overall post season performance. So Villanova beat them last year and Richmond beat them the year before. How many times have Villanova or Richmond been to the championship game? Nobody in the CAA has either as many national championships nor as many national championship game appearances as Montana has. And there are only three current FCS programs that have more national titles than Montana does if I'm thinking right (Youngstown State, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern). When it comes to title game appearances, I don't think any current FCS program has more than the Griz. I'm too lazy to look it up right now but I'd say the only possibility is Georgia Southern with 6 title game appearances.lol, Dude you need totell montana to take notes. Thats all you guys want is a easy route to the playoffs and thats probably why you guys always end up loosing in the championship game. Grow some balls and play some FBS schools.
Again, when it comes to overall consistency with respect to success in the playoffs Montana is as good as it gets.

I think we got the total experience. Let's see, basicly kicked out of our French Quarter hotel in the early hours on Saturday, pregame alumni tailgate at 7AM with creole and bloody marys, getting a but kicking starting at 10AM, no way to get back to the NO Airport so had a 9 hour drive back to ATL much of which was bumper to bumper with the wife constantly saying "Why do we schedule all of our vacation time around ASU's football schedule".JohnStOnge wrote:My guess is that most hard core McNeese fans would take a game at LSU over a home game against anybody the Cowboys would be able to get to come to their place. No, no, no!! John is right. You gus didn't get the whole enchilada. The all day tailgating (great food) plus Tiger Stadium during a night game. It is like McNeese tailgating multiplied by 10 or more.SpeedkingATL wrote:I think we got the total experience.
