I think that would be the only option unless they could put together some kind of scheduling arrangements with some other smaller conferences. Even if the three played each other it would be too hard to schedule nine other games each year especially trying to get home games. I don't see the BSC ever taking any FB only members, they don't need to.

And just so you know i think the GWC title is very coveted
You should check your own media guide, Cr@pbird. Sac beat SUU 53-29 on 11 Nov 95 in the midst of winning the America West Conference. Sure, there was no autobid involved since the only teams in the league other than Sac and SUU were Cow Poly and CS Northridge. But a win is a win, and THAT was a freaking blowout.
The one thing I had wrong about that season was that Sac went 4-6-1, not 4-6 (we tied Chico State).

If North And South Dakota leave the GW, and then if Montana and Montana State leave the Big Sky, the Big Sky might lighten up and let Cal Poly and UC Davis in as football only members and might make SUU a full member.

Or, what does everyone else think of SUU maybe becoming a member of the Southland Conference?

That won’t happen until the CA budget woes are fixed (if ever). I don’t see the administration at either school looking forward to increased budgets associated with being in the WAC. Also I think CP needs a new arena as they currently play in an old airplane hanger. (At least that’s what it looks like.) Of the three schools, “the farm extension” has the facilities in place and are a football stadium expansion away from being in contention to make a jump, but I imagine the academics would scream bloody murder if the athletic department wrangled enough money to support that move.

Not to mention the cost, tuition just went up another 32%. They have 28 varsity sports, it would cost way too much.

:roll: here we go again... Why is it that EVERYTIME a GWC thread comes up, you guys focus on taking teams from or realigning the big sky? The Big Sky is an established, seasoned conference, the Great West could fold any day now... Speaking for the Big Sky, we dont want to be associated with that crap conf... the only deal we are interested in making is this;

we give you UNC, and we get Cal Poly & UC Davis... we split up the BSC like the CAA and get 3 to 4 teams in a year...All the rest of those GWC teams can do whatever they want after that.

The Big Sky is in a fine spot since they have so many options should they ever lose schools:
1) expand from the group of SUU, NDSU, ND, SDSU, SD
2) Cal Poly/UC Davis for football only

The Southland is an interesting one to watch too. They'll have 10 football members once Lamar and UTSA are in the fold. But they have 3 schools that many think will one day leave for the Sunbelt (or CUSA): UTSA, Texas St and Lamar. If that ever did happen, the Southland could bring in the GWFC members for football only.

I do think its quite entertaining that all the Sac State fans can do is talk smack on the GWC when Cal Poly destroyed them this year :twocents:  , oh well they do what they can i guess :thumb:.

Anyways i think SUU would be a great fit for the Southland Conference if/when things in the Great West fall apart. We already have a great rivalry with Texas State (a little lopsided in our favor over the past years but still a great game none the less) and if a few teams do move up into the Sunbelt it would clear some room for Cal Poly, UC-Davis and SUU to join as the Dakotas will/would probably join the Ohio Valley or MVC.

However if the GWC does end up lasting i could see a few schools getting teams within 5 years. Utah Valley and Houston Baptist both want football programs (UVU is currently getting money put together for the effort) and would raise our number of teams to 7.

I think it’s allowed so long as you take down the “mighty” GWC champion to finish off the season. And please don’t tell me you are hanging your hat on a close loss now… :ohno:

38-19 isnt close.... and you beat UC-Davis as we did but the point im trying to make is the GWC isnt as bad as yall are making i out to be. North Dakota and South Dakota are both getting quite good and Uc-Davis, Cal Poly and SUU are teams on the rise as well. We had a year like the CAA conference this year where everyone beat someone and lost to someone, which is quite entertaining to a top heavy Big Sky Conference at times

What the heck are you talking about? SUU lost to Poly too, it doesnt matter by how many points, a loss is a loss. :thumb: By the way, SUU lost to NAU, a team Sac beat and Sac didnt lose to a transitional South Dakota team either :thumb: ... So pipe down there SUUTfowl.

Sit back and enjoy the prestigious  conference that SUU is in with its coveted :ohno: title.

Nah id rather keep talking thank you, especially since all you Sac State fans and your "amazing program" are so much better then any of the GWC teams. And South Dakota went into Montana State and lost on an interception at the last second...how did you guys do against Montana State?

Wether yall like it or not the GWC has alot of good teams and South and North Dakota are both very good, even though the Sioux were inconsistent as hell :twocents:

How can a conference have a lot of GOOD teams when it doesn't even have a LOT of teams. :coffee:

I find it amusing when Sac St. fans attempt to slam the Great West for football and the Big West for other sports. As we know, Sac St. in the Big Sky for football has been pretty ugly.

* GWFC member Cal Poly, for example has done more on it's own without the benefit of a Big Sky playoff autobid by qualifying twice since 2005.

* On the basketball side of things, the Big Sky conference has NEVER had an at-large bid. Meanwhile, the Big West has as recently as 2005.

Was reffering to the sense that each team in the conference is pretty close in skill level to the others hence why the conference was so jumbled this year :thumb:

CA can't suck forever and you can always drop 12 of those 28 sports and still be FBS eligible. I believe I gave the WAC angle as the 2nd option which is still better than being Indy and playing 9 road games while only getting home games vs Humboldt St. and Dixie St.

I went to a game in that airplane hanger vs Boise St. back in the 90's. Do they still play in that? :o

Legalize weed and that will erase the cost of trying to police it and it will bring in tons of money because we can tax the shit out of it. Our roided up Governator should be all about drugs.

I had a couple of thoughts regarding this thread. I follow the Lone Star Conference (D2) and the Southland Conference.

1. West Texas A&M is not going anywhere unless you can pull enough regional rivals to make it interesting to their fanbase. Right now, they have rivalries with Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, or Eastern New Mexico. People have discussed them as a replacement for Texas State / UTSA, but I don't see any of the West Texas schools leaving. Namely because the fans would rather see teams against their neighbors than teams from Louisiana, California, or the Dakotas.

2. Southern Utah to the SLC. Why would the SLC expand their footprint from East Texas/ Louisiana all the way to Utah. It increases the travel costs, and really does not benefit conference when there are D2 schools such as Delta State, Tarleton State, and Central Oklahoma that have been mentioned as possible replacements.

yup or they could take 1 of those D-II's and UTPA. That would give them 9 for football.

Yeah, there is no way the SLC would go to Southern Utah. I think their closest conference member for football would actually be the Bobcats, and that's around 1500 miles from Cedar City to San Marcos.

I think Delta State, Tarleton State and WTA&M are the most likely to move from DII to the SLC anytime in the forseeable future. Maybe even in that order?
Sincerely,

I call it a “bus league” but that is due to geographical reasons. If this offends anyone, I’m not sorry.
