UTSA head football coach Larry Coker announced Wednesday the hiring of Travis Bush, formerly of Texas State, as an assistant coach. He will serve as the Roadrunners’ offensive coordinator and his appointment is effective immediately.
“Travis will be a great addition to our coaching staff,” Coker said. “He has an innovative offensive mind and is an excellent communicator with student-athletes. He has also built a strong background and knowledgeable recruiting base in the Central and South Texas areas. We’re really excited about Travis joining our staff.”

I'm not sure but he was very well liked by the players. Texas State has had one of the top offenses the last few years. I really hope we find a good replacement.
He was Associate Head Coach and OC. And yes, he was a very good recruiter. While I don't blame him for the move I am pissed at the Admin for not geting things done (par for the course) and handing the coaching staff a package that keeps them at TXST. BTW - no coaching contracts signed yet. Expire end of March.
I'm thinking a move up from inside the existing staff and the hire of someone to replace that position.

I was thinking the same thing and it wouldn't surprise me at all if it happens. Now that you mention it, it wouldn't be a bad thing. Sam Houston had problems, but they still had good offenses.

Todd Whitten started SHSU's run of offensive success when he served as the offensive coordinator in 1999. He left and came back to become the head coach and there's no question that the offense has relatively sat near or atop the SLC rankings in offensive categories.
Whitten apparently wants to stay in Texas - as we're seeing with his communication to both Lamar and North Texas (at least that is what has been reported). He does have familiarity coaching and recruiting in this state with ties to UTEP, Texas Tech, Tarleton State and Sam Houston. Was also at Wyoming, where I figure he also recruited Texas.
Here's 2 quotes from our new QB that I feel sums up the Bush move.
“We’re treating it just like somebody died. You have to keep moving forward,” Hawkins said. “We’re going to keep on having a winning attitude. We’re not going to let one person leaving change the whole program.”
“Once I heard about it, I began thinking about all the things that we’ve been through and now that he’s gone, but you’ve always got to keep your head up and keep going,” Hawkins said. “He was always talking about moving to the next level and I can’t fault him for making this decision.”

The bolded part is really telling...
While I am mixed on what to think, two things that come to mind are that he really thought Larry Coker would be more beneficial in the long run than Brad Wright OR that UTSA in his mind was truly "higher up" on the totempole, if you will...
Either way, Bush is no longer with TXST and now is at UTSA. I guess we can revisit this when he moves again...??
