caa to fbs
I think that caa should be upgraded to a fbs conference. A few teams such as Montana and App
can play with them, but the top half of their conferences are far better then the majority of teams
in other conferences. Any thoughts on this?

Delaware and James Madison are the only CAA schools to average the necessary 15,000 attendance the last two years. ODU probably will in the future, but that won't help anybody else..oneball wrote:I think that caa should be upgraded to a fbs conference. A few teams such as Montana and App

Re: caa to fbs
The two largest schools in Virginia, George Mason (DC) and Virginia Commonwealth (Richmond), both longtime CAA members don't have football. If these two ever field teams, the CAA would have numerous large schools within an easy drive of each other---there is plenty of hate betweend them. Things could get interesting...there is a real possibility that the CAA could see several teams with 20K+ or at least high teen crowd averages...IF this ever happens, it would still take a long time to pull of a FBS CAA...w/o Mason and VCU, I don't see how the CAA could do it...and that starts the where/what does JMU do...maybe ODU too thread...
JMU is currently spending $62M to upgrade a stadium that already has $12M of recent upgrades...I'm sure somebody will say differently but I don't care what anybody says, no way that is not infrastructure for FBS. The new amenity filled, 25,000 seat stadium in the midddle of campus is designed for a third phase to 40,000...40,000 is a ways off but even thinking it says "let's shop around"...

Puh-lease. They've got 4 good teams out of 12. Hardly the makings of an FBS conference.oneball wrote:I think that caa should be upgraded to a fbs conference. A few teams such as Montana and App

They'd also be better than the Sun Belt and perhaps C-USA. Of course, the Big Sky and Appy's league is better than those conferences, too.

What a fuckin' joke.
Re: caa to fbs
The CAA seems to dominate the playoffs. Why? You will of course have off seasons, but I for one, being a griz, know that you won't be playing the best until you play CAA teams. The bottom feeders could probably
whip the SFA's and most BigSky teams, which I know isn't saying much. The Griz have outgrown the BigSky
but have nowhere to go. Yes we will win the BS conference next year, the year after, ect ect, the games are getting boring, you now who is going to win,we are. You will of course have an occasional loss, thats football,
but at the end of the season its the usual. The talk of moving up goes on and on,ad naseum.
The CAA may have outgrown the rest of the FCS,when predictability enters the equation perhaps its time to
examine options.

Re: caa to fbs
You haven't heard??? As of the 2016 season, the CAA is absorbing UNI, Montana, SIU, EIU, EWU and Weber St to form the CAA west. App St will also be absorbed into the CAA South. This is of course, part of the goal to form a 20 team conference so that the CAA may obtain all 20 bids to the playoffs. No OOC games will be played anymore (well besides the FBS game to prepare our CAA champion for the NC game) as the CAA currently can't play all the teams within their conference. Former slots for OOC games will be filled by the new CAA West.oneball wrote: The Griz have outgrown the BigSky but have nowhere to go.

Re: caa to fbs
I still can't believe that people think like this. The CAA (as a whole) would not be better than the MAC, Sunbelt, or CUSA. If you think this to be true, then you really need to start watching more FBS football...more than the one game a year your team plays against whatever FBS team you've scheduled as a money game.
Even Villanova, as good as they are now, could not compete on a week-in, week-out basis with any except the bottom feeders of the MAC and Sunbelt. And to suggest otherwise shows a departure from reality.
However, all that being said, give each of these teams a few years under their belt handing out 85 schollies and recruiting FBS type talent could bring them up to the top of the MAC/Sunblet (i.e. Troy).

I agree. One of the big differences between FBS and FCS is depth. Villanova's starters may have been as good as any MAC teams starters on opening day, but as the season progressed injuries and fatigue would wear 'Nova down faster than a typical MAC team.nwFL Griz wrote:I still can't believe that people think like this. Really though, I do wish that the NCAA would reclassify everything and put the FCS majors and FBS mid-majors in one group. That would be awesome

The reason FCS was created was not for football....but for basketball...
The big school ADs who had IAA football were fed uop with losing top prospects when the IAA football status was trotted out during basketball recruiting by the IA schools... "Those schools really aren't big time...see, they are IAA schools while we're IA"...
Didn't matter that the football classification had nothing to do with basketball...but because of March Madness, which is an NCAA scanctioned tourney, the NCAA created Division I FCS/FBS...
So, IMHO, the NCAA will not go back and create a lower level "division" for football...just as they have ruled that if you want to have a DI basketball team, your football team must be DI...

Let me put it this way, in terms even nwFLGriz can understand:
I would stack Villanova, W&M, UNH, JMU & UD up against Temple, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, and Ohio all day long. And if you gave the 5 CAA schools 22 more schollies to go get more players of the same calibre they have NOW, they would RULE the MAC.

Unless you give them the 22 schollies first, they will get there asses kicked as the season goes on. While the CAA teams you listed might be able to beat any of the MAC teams you listed, they would be hard pressed to go 3-2 if they had to play them over a 5 week stretch.AZGrizFan wrote:Let me put it this way, in terms even nwFLGriz can understand:
