FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
Would like for you guys to throw out some impressive lower classmen who looks pretty impressive already for their teams... Hopefully some players who you could see being stars in the future. THANKS!!!
Re: FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
Newcomers as in literally first year of playing? Or just Frosh and Sophs?
Because Liberty is chock full of young talent.
DB's Brett Vinson (True Soph in 2010) and Kajuan Lee (Soph in 2010) (Big South All Conference DB as a freshman) will have a big impact on the defense.
RB's SirChauncey Holloway (True Soph in 2010)and Aldreakis Allen (True Soph in 2010) will both see a lot of playing time at RB, and were really the backbone of the run game this past season.
WR's Jimmy Eden (Soph in 2010) and Pat Kelly (True Soph in 2010)both will get a chance this year to show what they can do, since our best WR, Mike Brown, will be moving to QB.
Back-Up QB Tyler Brennan (Soph in 2010), who will see "25% of the snaps" according to Coach Rocco, has shown signs of brilliance in limited time, and seems to be a traditional drop back passer with the wheels to make plays if he needs to.
Other underclassmen to watch include Aaron Lundy (Soph in 2010) at center, and LB Demetrius Ward (Soph in 2010). I don't know a ton about which freshman will develop into stars, but I don't think we'll be using many of them this year.

Re: FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
Youngstown State Freshmen LB Taylor Hill.
Before ending up at YSU, he was practicing to become a Michigan Wolverine. Prior to that, he had committed to West Virginia, and prior to that, Oklahoma. However he is going to be a sophomore, because he never did end up starting his college career in Ann Arbor.
This season: 65 tackles in 11 games, which led a very strong YSU defense, which gave up just 22 points per game this past season. Our problem is our offense was only scoring 21 points per game.

Re: FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
Zach Johnson Sophomore LB- redshirted this year because of blood clots in his leg. He led the team with 96 tackles in 2008 and also had a pick and 2 sacks. (His twin brother Matt plays SS was 2nd in tackles this year with 102 and had 6 picks)
Renard Williams Junior DT 6'-2" 300lbs- 16 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks - not neccessarily a newcomer as he'll be a junior, but with his size and the year he had in 2009 he could be a dominant player in the Big Sky and perhaps a Buchanon candidate.
At 6'3" and 6'5", wide receivers Nicholaus Edwards (26 rec. 3 td 334 yds), and Brandon Kaufman (23 rec, 1 td 293 yds) have great size, and saw a ton of action the last 4 games after Aaron Boyce went down. They will both be sophomores, and if they develop a relationship with whoever the QB is going to be will have a chance to have success along the lines of an Eric Kimble or Aaron Boyce.

For the Griz I'd say the two biggest future "stars" are Peter Nguyen (RB/KR) and Sam Gratton (WR).

High School: He lettered in four sports at Drummond High School: track and field (four), basketball (one), football (one), and cross country (one) ... his prep football experience was limited due to an injury...all-state selection in football, basketball, and track and field...chosen team MVP in all three sports...served as team captain in basketball and football...won state football championship in 2007 and the state track title in 2004.

Re: FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
I'll throw out RB Frank Reddic. As fortunes turned we had to remove his redshirt in 2009 when Bush went down. When used he was impressive but they really started, then stopped, using him. He will be one to watch. Good speed, strength, finds the holes and is a complete compliment to Bush. If Bush isn't back next season he will be our star RB. If Bush is back the SLC will have two to keep contained in our running game.
Re: FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
This kid got a lot of time this year as a true freshman, he'll be well known by the time he's done at MSU.

Re: FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
Some other guys that we may not want to forget about...
Gerald Kemp
2008: He was a redshirt at UM.
High School: He was named Rancho Bernardo High School’s 2008 “Athlete of the Year” where he earned 12 letters: four each in football, basketball, and track and field...team captain in all three sports...his junior and senior years he passed for 1,850 yards and 16 touchdowns, rushed for 2,050 yards, averaged 9.5 yards a carry, and scored 26 TDs...he played wide receiver as a sophomore and had 28 catches for 640 yards and four touchdowns...MVP in football as a senior...an All-North County and All-Palomar League first team all-league choice in three sports... his senior track and field squad was the C.I.F. champions and one of the top teams in the state...his high school football coach was Brad Elrod.
Levi Buckles
2008: He was a redshirt at Montana.
High School: He earned three letters in football and two in basketball at Post Falls High School ... selected team offensive MVP in football as a senior ... also named MVP in basketball following his senior season ... first team all-league in football and named conference “Offensive Player of the Year” ... also first team all-conference in hoops and league MVP...his high school football coach was Jeff Kinz.
Bryce Carver
As the starting quarterback for the Beavers the past two seasons, Bryce passed for 43 touchdowns and ran for 38 ... played receiver and safety in
2006 for Dillon when the Beavers won the Class "A" state title ... as a senior he threw for 2,238 yards and 19 touchdowns and also ran for 1,105 yards and another 25 scores ... also punted, kicked, and played defensive back ... earned nine letters: three each in football, basketball, and track ... his prep coach was Terry Thomas, former (1978-80) Griz defensive back and punter.
Personal.: Bryce's parents are Brett and Nancy Carver of Dillon ... will major in biology.
Jordan Tripp
Jordan was an "AA" all-state and all-conference pick at Big Sky High School as a senior ... had 12 sacks as a senior despite battling an injury ... he had 72 tackles, 13 for losses last year for the 6-5 Eagles ... team captain his senior year ... also all-league in football as a junior ... also lettered in track ... his high school coach was former Griz player (1959-61) and coach (1977-79), Gary Ekegren.
Personal.: His father, Bryan, was a starting linebacker for the Grizzlies from 1989-90, while his grandfather, Gene, played at UM in 1963-64 ... will major in business...birth date: April 3, 1991.
Ursus Notes-
Tripp came in and played very well in the spots he was put in as a freshman. His dad is a friend of mine and was an extremely hard nosed player with one of those "no quit" type of motors that it looks like he has passed on to his son. I have a feeling that in the next few years there are gonna be a lot of opposing offensive players that are gonna rue the day they crossed his path.
There are so many young promising FR in the linebacking core right now. They all could be very good as soon as next year.
Ty Timmer (his dad was a stellar LB on the 1984 NC Bobcat team),
Josh Stuberg- Could be the next great defensive player from Helena to follow in the footsteps of Andy Petek, Jason Crebo, & Danny Downs.
Brock Coyle-Hell, the name alone is worth a couple of tackles/game!
Another kid to watch for is a young fella named Andrew Glueckert. I know his dad and uncle from Helena and if this kid has the ability to be as strong and work as hard in the weight room as his kin then he has a ton of potential at the DE position.

Any one of the 3 young QB's at Illinois State. Drew Kiel wll be back from a broken thumb/wrist suffered in the season opener at EIU. As I understand if he graduates on time he'll be eligible for a medical redshirt, so is only a sophmore.
Behind him we have MVC freshman of the year Matt Brown who had an outstanding season, and Freshman Matt Lancaster, whom the UNI folks know all about.
Overall our team is very young, lots of frosh ad sophs with significant PT this year. Next year will be another year ofgrowth and development, I'll say 6-5 or 7-4, but will be in the hunt for a conference championship in 2 years.

Id say Thomas O'Brien at qb for SDSU is one to watch out for, even though he did choke in the Montana game somewhat.

Agree definately with B.W. Webb. Also, a sleeper for the Tribe: Ryan Moody. Fr WR. 3 receptions for 70 yds against UVA in his opening game (and looked quick getting downfield), out with an ankle injury game 2 against CCSU, followed by serious injuries in a MVA. Assuming full recoveries, look for good things 2011 when our next QB is hopefully in his 2nd yr. It's a stretch, but you heard it here first.

Re: FCS Newcomers Team!!! Your Pick
I think I'll add RLB Joplo Bartu. He is half-brother to a former player of ours (Wellington DeShield) who was a big play maker in his own right. Bartu was put on the field @ MLB due to an early season injury to Sr. Joe Bell and settled into 2nd string RLB for the remainder of the season. He made a lot of noise (especially at TCU) and will likely find himself cracking the starting line-up in 2010. We will return our starting RLB - Marcus Clark - so I see him fighting for starting MLB against a Jr. for next season.
As a 2nd team and RS freshman he was 6th on the team in tackles
6' 2" 203 (per 2009 TXST player profile)
11g - 52 TT - 24 solo 28 asst - 3TFL - 1 sack - 2QBH and a forced fumble

Nobody in the country is younger than Old Dominion, so there is a lot of players to choose from. But here are a few names that stand out.
Thomas Demarco, QB RS-Soph Led nation in scoring with 21 TDs passing and 17 TDs rushing. Only 4 INTs.
Reid Evans, WR RS-Freshman Our possession receiver. Had 46 receptions. Only 3 TD's since we shared the ball, but he has the most talent.
Jonathon Plisco, P RS-Freshman Len nation in average yards per punt. Had 18 punts over 50 yards. Put 26 inside the 20.

At SFA Im Going To Go With The Aubrey Twins! Josh Aubrey Was A True Freshman Standout At CB, Had A Good Season, Maybe Was SFA Best Cover Guy. His Twin Brother Jordan Aubrey Saw Limited Action Playing Behing ATalented Senior Safety, But No Doubt He Have The Potential. Both Stand About 5'11 195!!! Also Like Graylyn Crawford Who Is A Redshirt Freshman WR. Also Kris Lott From Plano Texas Who Redshirted This Season. Coming Out Of High School Had FBS Offers From Kansas, Oklahoma State, And Iowa State!!!
