Kudos to ESPN
Really stepped up their coverage of the game today. Brock Huard is a great color commentator and appears to really be interested in FCS football. He was also involved in the awards candidate.

No doubt. Plenty of factoids and correct pronunciations. Nice job Bristol.

Re: Kudos to ESPN
Are you guys kidding me? The broadcast was pisspoor for ESPN standards. Showing empty seats, screwing up on play-by-play etc. I remember when we won in 01 it was Godfrey - he is awesome, I don't think he'll do FCS anymore.
ESPN's FCS coverage sucks.

ESPN's FCS coverage sucks.
They didn't have any choice but to show empty seats.
I didn't hear any play-by-play errors.
BTW, I hate defending ESPN, but gotta give credit where credit is due.

It was a well produced broadcast...

Re: Kudos to ESPN
I'm sorry but yes by our FCS standards ESPN has been good but for ESPN QUALITY I really haven't thought it was all too great. Watch any major bowl game, team, even Boise State at home and you have better quality cameras, better broadcasters etc.
Did anyone watch the App State game? Myself and several others commented on how the cameras could never follow the ball.

Re: Kudos to ESPN
I'm pretty sure I heard one of the TV guys say that the Griz travelled all the way from MISSOURI or something along those lines. But that could have been my ears playing tricks on me (I wasn't paying that close of attention).
I also remember watching (during the first half, I think), where Nova was in the red zone, and there was a stoppage for injury as Nova's tight end was shaken up. You could clearly hear some people in the stands that were heckling, and yelling stuff like "c'mon! hurry up! get on with it!". Seemed quite rude.

Great gamecast by ESPN2! Huard was very ood. I agree with DF lightyears ahead of the broadcast of ASU v. Delaware.
Great game. Esp. for those with ECB!

I kept hearing the PA announcer say MORIANI rather than Mariani....at least get the players name correct
"Born in other countries, yet believing you could be happy in this, our laws acknowledge, as they should do, your right to join us in society, conforming, as I doubt not you will do, to our established rules. That these rules shall be as equal as prudential considerations will admit, will certainly be the aim of our legislatures, general and particular." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Hugh White, 1801

The 2 they had last week for App/Montana were the best I've heard for an FCS game.

Re: Kudos to ESPN
Tried to post way earlier but after the game ended I couldn't get through.
Look, these guys have very little exposure to FCS. They cram a few weeks in advance. It was light years away from them referring to TXST as Southwestern (a small private liberal arts college in Georgetown, TX...50 miles up the interstate) and/or Texas Southern when we played GSU.
Oh and BTW - it was one of those "we love whoever is ahead on this game" calls that night. They were all over Barrick Nealy until GSU got way ahead and until we finally went ahead in the 4th qtr it was GSU this and GSU that and this player is the best thing since sliced bread and the GSU QB was the best QB in the world. Then we went ahead and nary a peep about GSU. It was all Barrick Nealy and company. Kind of appalling play by play when you revisit it (I have it on DVD to remember when)
So to say this was a hack job really is a bit absurd. Think back folks.
Maybe Montana fans are too used to their CBS affiliate and broadcasters that know all about the Griz and trheir players. I just don't really know.

And that's why I think these games are insulting. Friday night. ESPN2 - this type of quality. Playoff football - these teams, fans, schools, and AMERICA deserves better!

ESPN's FCS coverage sucks.
Last night's coverage was pretty good I thought. The 2005 and 2006 coverage was terrible and I was at the NC against Delaware in 07 so I missed the live footage but picked up the DVD and the broadcast was pretty shitty again. All they did was complain about how App was classless because of penalties and pissed and moaned about the fans coming down to the field with 3 minutes left. The FCS deserves better coverage and support from ESPN.

I also noticed that. IMHO, This game was boring, low scoring, poorly lit, pathetic attendance, & no players with any 'wow' factor... just a goofy lookin kid running the WC!JayJ79 wrote:I'm pretty sure I heard one of the TV guys say that the Griz travelled all the way from MISSOURI or something along those lines.
