Been saying it for years. It's that half assed conference they're in. Plus their grade school caliber OOC schedule. All the CAA, Valley and SoCon teams play BCS teams in non confy games.

I'd love to smack around the playoff-less Hens this year.
Griz put up more points on Villanova than all but Holy Cross, New Hampshire (their only loss) and Temple.

FWIW - I thought the Griz were the better team but they abandoned a winning offensive strategy too early. Nova could not cover those receivers.

Once Nova started blitzing, those receivers could have (and many times WERE) been standing all alone and Selle didn't have time to find them. NO hot routes it seemed like...

Klaboe had a good snap...but Larson Charlie Brown'd McKnight bad.
From what I saw on the replay, Larson got the ball just fine but lost the handle when he spun the laces around. He did a good job of picking it up & scrambling, but that pass to Overton at the sideline had to be perfect & he missed badly.
Obviously that play would have made the difference in retrospect (assuming everything else happened exactly the same, of course), but it's not like it demoralized us at the time. The second half was where the Griz lost the game.

Nova went to press coverage on Mariani in the second half and shut him down. The big difference between these teams was in the trenches, where Nova was clearly better. Selle was hot as a pistol, but couldn't make up for the disparity up front.

JMU has used a variation of it for years, and W&M has used it, although more so in "08 than this year. It requires good LBs who have some size, but are also mobile, which Nova certainly has. JMU's version has been more of a 4-2-5 where the DEs are very mobile, and you have an outstanding strong safety who is all over the place in alignment. The 3-3-5 helps teams who lack depth on the DL, which was another characteristic of this years Nova team.
Come to the CAA and join us! As the Griz have seen, they would not win the CAA conference championship with any regularity (no one does) and would not have umpteen straight playoff appearences. Heck, the Hens would have made the playoffs in the Big Fluffy.
