If we win this one, the fun police will be sure to disassemble them as soon as the final whistle blows.

Fun random notes about that game:

  • - That was the last game played on grass at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

    - Montana took a 13-3 lead in the 4th., then App rallied to tie it at 13. App kicked a FG to start OT for their only lead and then Montana scored the TD for the win.

    - The game-winning TD pass from Drew Miller was the final one of his career (he got hurt in the 1st. quarter of the title game).

    - The "And the Grizzlies are going to Chattanooga" clip in that one Griz pregame video is from Miller's game-winning pass to Jimmy Farris in this game.

    - Troy Albea had 11 catches for 177 yards to lead all receivers. Jimmy Farris had 7 catches for 110 yards to lead Montana.

    - Despite the Mountaineers having the reputation of a "smash-mouth" power running team, the Griz outrushed them 143-28.

    - Yohance Humphery led Montana with 72 yards rushing, but only averaged 2.9 ypc. Backup Ben Drinkwalter ran for 66 yards on just 10 carries, however.

    - Montana had 4 sacks in the contest, but none of them were by single-season record holder Andy Petek (who had 19 sacks in the regular season; postseason stats did not count then).

I remember driving over from Butte in the snowstorm (hit the ditch once) and didn't make it until the fourth quarter. It was the best quarter of football I have ever seen in person.

It should be a fairly epic weekend. :thumb:

I always wonder why people just peruse and don't jump in and kick the dogshit out of some of the slackjawed dimwits (CAA/MVFC fans :) ) on here. Glad we got some more people joining in.

I wish I could take a whole bunch of credit for all of that, but most of it just came from the box score.

Think they came from Ursus.....I wasn't at the game, but love the pics...

Also, here's a cool link to a series being run on the Winston-Salem Journal website where former App players recall the experience of the 12/09/00 Montana game...pretty good stuff...remember catching parts on the TV & thinking the long range shots of the mtns & snow falling were so cool....

There is a mystique to Montana football.

For east-coast teams in the FCS, traveling to Missoula for a game is an experience.

A grizzly bear (stuffed, fortunately, and in a glass case) awaits visitors at the airport. It’s typically cold and snowy for December playoff games. And a mountain called Hellgate is the backdrop at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

The Grizzly fans are ardent, and loud. The stadium itself lends itself to a big-time college football atmosphere, with fans wrapped around and close to the field in a bowl-type facility.

Appalachian State will travel there this weekend, for a semifinal game in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. The Mountaineers been there before, for a 2000 semifinal game that turned out to be a classic thriller – with top-ranked Montana surviving for a 19-16 overtime victory.

Your welcome. We had a pretty cool game pics thread this summer that had a bunch of good ones in it. I thought those were pretty sweet and put em' in there.

Pretty soon we're just going to have to call this Egriz2.

We apparently need to do more promotion everywhere but Montana.

In the pictures, every Appy state guy is wearing a long-sleeved shirt. I only see one Montana guy wearing long sleeves.

Fuckin' pussies. No wonder Appy state lost that game. :ohno: :ohno:

Yeah you got to have the fridge stocked deep for this one. I remember my days in the dorm, I was lucky enough to be in Bowie overlooking KBS. If App pulls this one off, Boone is going to be nuts - enjoy it my friend. :thumb:

I'm gonna and we will have about 4 16 galloners for this game I would bet so we'll be liquidly prepped.

If we win I will be happy as hell, but this would be a truly bittersweet win because of the friends I have made from App. State. I hate it when the feeling of glee is tempered by some sorrow for people you really like and respect. I am a selfish man though.

Give me a break, all you and DJH did after Weber got smoked was talk about how shitty the Big Sky is, and how every team except Montana chokes in the playoffs. :coffee:

Is that a lie?

I've also said the MVFC was a mediocre league this year and not as good as we thought it was
