Other than three national-championship games played at neutral-site Chattanooga, Tenn., Appalachian State hasn't had a playoff game on the road since a trip to Statesboro, Ga., in 2001.
Not counting the neutral-site title games, the Mountaineers have played 12 straight playoff games at home.
So what will it be like when they play Saturday night in a quarterfinal game at Richmond?
"I honestly don't know," senior Mario Acitelli of the Mountaineers said.
"I've never done it before," teammate Blake Elder said. "Even in high school, when we won a state championship every year, we never had to go on the road in the playoffs. This will be different."

I don't know what it will be like, but I'm excited about it. To go on the road and win would be a big deal for this team. Plus, it could set up a rematch from the 2000 semis.
Appalachian State Mountaineers:
National Champions: 2005, 2006, and 2007
Southern Conference Champions: 1986, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012

The team responded well this year on the road when we brought a lot of fans. Elon and Furman being the best examples.

don't say that too loud. You will get accused of padding your schedule so that you can have all your games at home.....

That these rules shall be as equal as prudential considerations will admit, will certainly be the aim of our legislatures, general and particular." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Hugh White, 1801

Damn, if you guys lose...maybe some of the "can't win a road playoff game" heat will be taken off of the Griz.

I thought you guys already made that point by virtue of ASU playing a SoCon schedule this season.putter wrote:don't say that too loud. You will get accused of padding your schedule so that you can have all your games at home.....

I do not see what the big deal is with road games. A team should be able to win regardless of where they are playing. You either have it or you don't. If you are concerned with being on the road, you are concerned about the wrong thing.

In theory--correct. This season, though, CAA teams won 65% of home games in intraleague play. "Home cooking"?GoApps70 wrote:I do not see what the big deal is with road games.
