Still No Love for Montana from TSN

Post by TXGRIZZFAN »

Unbelievable........Montana performs one of the greatest comebacks in FCS history....and not even hardly a mention of it on The Sports Network.

Then of course you have the overview of the seeding by Coulson, according to Coulson, the Griz and BSC should not even bother playing because we don't deserve to be on the same playing field as the CAA. Here is a cut out from his masterful mind from a few day back....
BREAKING DOWN THE RESUMES

Montana had a win over a weak Division II team, Western State, and its other two non-conference victories were against a 6-5 UC Davis team and an underachieving, 4-7 Cal Poly squad. There was also a mind-blowing, last-second 12-10 win against Idaho State, a unit that had the longest losing streak in FCS for most of the season before finishing 1-10.

The Grizzlies won four games against teams that were ranked, Weber State, Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona and Montana State, but its other games in conference didn't match that of the Colonial Athletic Association.
Montana won a share of the Big Sky championship for the 12th consecutive year and reached the playoffs for an NCAA-record 17th straight time.
Villanova, meanwhile, beat Mid-American divisional co-champion Temple 27-24 in its opening game and also stopped a Penn squad, 14-13, that led FCS in defense and won the Ivy League with a perfect conference record. The only weak link to the Wildcat schedule was a 38-17 win over a disappointing Lehigh team that started 0-4 before finishing 4-7 and tying for second in the Patriot League.

Villanova beat three CAA bottom feeders, Northeastern, Rhode Island and Towson, but the Wildcats also won two of three games against top-five-ranked opponents, beating No. 5 William & Mary and No. 1 Richmond and losing to No. 5 New Hampshire, 28-24.

There were also wins against teams from James Madison and Delaware that were ranked during the season. That enabled Villanova to win the CAA's automatic bid and tie Richmond for the league title.

"I think we have the best resume and pedigree in the country," Villanova coach Andy Talley said after Saturday's win against rival Delaware. "Some other teams haven't played a schedule with the same difficulty as us."

Talley then took direct aim at Montana.

"We played an (FBS) team, not a Division II team," he explained. "We haven't dodged anybody."
Who really cares.....if you play an FBS team it is because you need the money.....Montana doesn't need the money
Villanova was ranked No. 1 in the Gridiron Power Index, a rating system that includes computer rankings with polls in a similar fashion to the BCS rankings, and also was ranked on top in the popular Any Given Saturday fan poll.

Southern Illinois, Richmond and William & Mary were also rated ahead of Montana in the GPI. SIU also was on top, with Villanova second and Montana third in The Sports Network top-25 poll - considered the poll of record for 23 years.
Of course he'd say that .........TSN is obviously east coast biased
The only place where Montana was ranked No. 1 was in the coaches poll, a poll that in its revised form only has 28 voters, has had questionable accuracy and relies on a voting block that seldom sees a cross-section of games from around the country.
Sure.....what would the coaches know.....they only live and breath football 24x7 :coffee:

Now let's take a look at his predictions

South Dakota State's edge on the line should allow the Jackrabbits to win a defensive struggle by three points.

Of course looking at the rest of his predictions:
This should be a shootout, with EWU's playoff experience making the difference in a four-point victory.
EWU lost by 11
Southern Conference runner-up Elon has struggled in big games in the past three years and that, combined with Richmond's playoff experience should make the difference in a 10-point Spider win.
Elon lost by 3
This should be one of the highest scoring games of the first round, but Villanova has too many offensive weapons and is favored by 21 points in this one.
Nova won by 10
This game will be decided on which of these two sometimes-erratic teams plays more consistently. That is more likely to be McNeese State, with the Cowboys playing at home, and should result in a seven-point victory for MSU.
MSU lost by 36
Southern Illinois has too many weapons on both sides of the ball and should win this one going away by 18 points.

SIU won by 41

Weber State has the experience of a quarterfinal finish in last year's playoffs, but William & Mary's offense will likely be too much for the Wildcats in a tight game the Tribe should take by four points.

W&M won by 38

and of course

ASU may be the most dangerous team in the field right now and the Mountaineers have more experience than any potential opponent, with three national titles and a quarterfinal berth in the past four years. That should make the difference in a 17-point Appalachian State victory.
ASU won by 7

well....he got 5 out of 8 right......close on the scores

This post is nothing negative against the FCS teams.....just the worthless, biased TSN.

At least FCS takes care of this crap on the field. Don't worry about TSN and writers, UM controls it's own destiny and that is all that matters.

Coulson is getting worse and worse trying to represent the FCS because he is not impartial nor does he try to be. Talley is a tool and said the a JMU victory, or Villanova for that matter, was a "slam dunk" last year. Montana does not duck anyone, they just don't have to pimp out. The closest thing Montana has to Temple is Idaho, and they won't play Montana

Who cares? ESPNNEWS covered it, College Gameday Final, ESPNU, freaking SPORTSCENTER! and we are worried about TSN. The Griz don't need to fish for compliments, or any arbitrary ego stroking. Besides the only people that read the TSN FCS articles are the ones that read these boards anyways. These sorts of posts just give Griz haters more fuel for the fire.

Exactly. At some point during the 3rd quarter on Saturday, when it appeared as though the Griz were going to be exiting the playoffs early, one of the TV announcers (former Griz QB Grady Bennett) brought up the BCS fiasco and highlighted games like this one where a lower-ranked opponent got a shot to prove themselves. Of course, things took a serious turn for the worse for SDSU right after that, but Bennett was 100% right. Hell, the way the polls were at the end of the regular season, if the FCS championship were handled the way the FBS "championship" is, Montana might be playing the role of TCU or Boise St.: undefeated and unable to compete for the title. Take a look at last year for another example. The FCS championship featured #4 Montana against unseeded Richmond. Never woulda happened without a playoff. :twocents:

Hey......Relax.....just stating the obvious.....I never took what they said as real anyway. I was just saying that no matter what we do....we will never get the respect that is deserved. Even when we win the NC this year.....they will say it was because of this, or because of that....not because we played well and better then everyone else we played.

And as far a "fuel for the fire"........one more match on a raging forest fire won't make a difference. ;)

I remember those days back on AGS when Cap'n Cat would push a button and just stand back and watch me implode. All he had to do was dis the military in general, or the Navy in particular....and it was fireworks time.

Sure glad I don't do THAT any more.... :coffee: :coffee:

I don't read that garbage anymore so it doesn't affect me at all even to see it here. I do wish that Griz fans would be above it and ignore this tool and stop even visiting the site for his work. I quit going there a couple of summers ago when I read his stuff which was always late and full of mistakes. He is no Moss or Dougherty and tries to get by on writing opinion pieces instead of putting out accurate, eloquent material. I know it's pure shit so I never walk into it and wonder what the smell is.

He does that stuff because he gets a lot of traffic from Montana fans to go there and be offended by his dipshit opinion so I don't get why Montana fans keep falling for that old carrot. I really don't give a shit for his approval or respect but I guess as far as Griz fans go I'm probably in the minority since it is one of the most bitched about things in Grizland every year.

Well I know you so I'm biased right off the bat but you do a very good job of putting out unbiased pieces and I really do enjoy reading your stuff. You also don't pretend to be above it all when you make a mistake and fix it with an acknowledgment and integrity. I can read the message boards posts from any number of posters with an agenda to get the kind of quality he normally puts out. I expect that kind of thing here, I don't on a national news board.
