I look at what Matt Nichols means to his team. EWU does not have speed like App State does nor do they play the kind of defense that App State does. However Nichols has put up great numbers with 3300 plus yards so far, 30 TD's and only 5 Int's. He has put those numbers up without a true speed receiver other than Davis and he doesn't make many mistakes. His career numbers are impressive too. He is the Big Sky Conferences All time career leader in total yards and only needs 53 passing yards to be the All Time Big Sky leader in that category. If EWU makes a run in the playoffs he could become the All Time Division 1AA leader. He has also broke the previous school records set by former Payton Award winner Eric Meyer. Matt Nichols should win the Payton award this year based on his year this year and his career numbers.
Amen. Not only has he had a great year, in relation to his career as a whole, he's one of the best QB's in FCS history. I believe he will win the Payton......

SmallCollege, What did your ballots end up looking like (if you don't mind making it public)?

Here is my Buchanan ballot.

BUCHANAN AWARD VOTES
1. DE Arthur Moats, James Madison
2. DE Danny Batten, South Dakota State
3. DE Austen Lane, Murray State
4. FS Mark LeGree, Appalachian State
5. DE Christian Anthony, Grambling State

Moats is the winner of the award by a good margin. Batten's team did not get the publicity for him to win it and might not even finish #2 but he has the best motor I have seen of any of these guys. Lane is a workout freak on a bad defense and really had an impressive second half of the season. LeGree is BY FAR the best safety in FCS and should be one of the top 2 names for the award next year, along with Anthony. Anthony has a great motor like Batten and is a heck of a player. I would like to see what he would do in the CAA, Big Sky, SoCon because he is clearly a couple levels better than any tackle in the SWAC.
