Cinderella Season for EWU
Going into the season with a ban from the playoffs, Beau Baldwin kept the team focused on one game at a time, reminding every player that the ban was only a punishment if the team took care of business on the field. Two-thirds of the season went by under the shadow of uncertainty, and EWU held their own, but suffered a couple losses to nationally-ranked fellow Big-Sky foes Weber State and Montana. EWU also lost standout WR Aaron Boyce who led the team in yards and receiving TDs in the game against #3 Montana. But the players dug in, winning 4 straight, including tonight's nail-biting shootout against formerly ranked NAU, and in all-likelihood secured a berth into the Playoffs for the 4th time in 6 years. Congrats, and good luck in the Playoffs!

Despite what some of our Eastern brethren think, if the Big Sky get 3 in, I would not want to play any of them. Heck I am afraid of the Griz having to play Eastern or Weber in the 2nd round if it should happen....
"Born in other countries, yet believing you could be happy in this, our laws acknowledge, as they should do, your right to join us in society, conforming, as I doubt not you will do, to our established rules. That these rules shall be as equal as prudential considerations will admit, will certainly be the aim of our legislatures, general and particular." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Hugh White, 1801

Montana is the only Big Sky team in right now. Don't count your eggs before they hatch.

Only speaking truth. Nothing is guaranteed. I'd like to see EWU in, but it's not a given.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Willie wrote:Montana is the only Big Sky team in right now. Don't count your eggs before they hatch.

EWU has definitely overcome adversity, but to call a "Cinderella season" for a team that has had a winning record 10 out of the last 11 years (plus two QF appearances) is a bit of a stretch.

In terms of starting the season banned from the playoffs, to finishing the season eligible and in... yes, I'd call that a cinderella season. It will really be such if we win our first (and second) round games.Mvemjsunpx wrote:EWU has definitely overcome adversity, but to call a "Cinderella season" for a team that has had a winning record 10 out of the last 11 years (plus two QF appearances) is a bit of a stretch.

I kinda agree with this statement. A cinderella season would include 4 more wins.Mvemjsunpx wrote:EWU has definitely overcome adversity, but to call a "Cinderella season" for a team that has had a winning record 10 out of the last 11 years (plus two QF appearances) is a bit of a stretch.
But take it easy on the beagle. After all, we all know what fan is short for.
And when you consider the tradition, facilities, and fan support of the various teams who expect to make the field, the chances of winning an NCAA appeal, not to mention the intimidation factor of having your back against the NEZ in the 2nd half needing to somehow stay in a game where the opposing team outdraws your home field attendance 4-1, you have to admit that EWU is at least the little football program that could, if not a deserving David.
Oh, nevermind. I'm tired and going to bed.

It is not a Cinderella season at all. You guys were just banned from the playoffs. You were still supposed to be good, it not like you took anyone by suprise. I like EWU, but don't be ridiculous. If anything, you had a lucky break in the middle of a good season...don't get overzealous....You also finished 3rd in the BSC.

Also, before anyone gets offended at my post, I think EWU deserves to be in the playoffs, but this is getting a little ridiculous. I hope you make it, but it certainly isn't a guarantee.

Yeah, this thread is a bit presumptuous. If it was a Cinderella season you would have won the Big Sky.
Also, if it's Cinderella just to make the playoffs.... ok. But wouldn't actually winning your next three or four games make it more of a Cinderella story?
