Edited the post for you, acknowledging the 4 FBS wins....however weak they may be.

Don't you have a directional Oregon to play? Maybe a Fort Lewis or Dixie State?

Well, how about today?

Big Sky's profile:

10-14 Non-Conference record (3 games remaining: EWU @SUU, Cal Poly @Weber, and UCDavis @Sac St)
6-2 Non-Conference FCS record (same 3 games remaining)

0-4 vs. Pac-10
0-3 vs. Mountain West
0-2 vs. Big 12
0-1 vs. SEC
0-1 vs. Big Ten

5-2 vs. Great West
1-0 vs. Pioneer

4-1 vs. Division II or worse

Best 8 Non-Conference Opponents Defeated
Northern Arizona over Southern Utah
Montana over UC Davis
Montana over Cal Poly
N.Colorado/Montana St. over South Dakota
Northern Colorado over San Diego
...
Portland State over Southern Oregon
Eastern Washington over Western Oregon
Montana over Western State

Worst 8 Non-Conference Opponents Defeated by
Idaho State vs. Central Washington
...
Sacramento State vs. Cal Poly
Portland State vs. UC Davis
...
Weber State vs. Wyoming
Sacramento State vs. UNLV
Weber State vs. Colorado State
Northern Colorado vs. Kansas
Idaho State vs. Arizona State

Comment: Seriously, why not just merge with the Great West and play 10 conference games?

Agreed. The two conferences should merge, even if it's for football-only.

Only if you include an asterisk above which implies that the year 2003 did not happen

Reading is fundamental.

That championship was won by Delaware, not Delawhere. :kisswink:

Other than the fact that we are 6-6 in our last 12 against 1A you have a point.

Just wondering...is there a correlation between when Montana won it's last NC and when Montana stopped playing 1A teams????

No. The Griz won their last title in '01. They last played a I-A in '06.

As mvem said no correlation. The opposite could be considered though. We played 3 D2 teams in 1995! That is widely recognized as our best team ever that outscored our opponents on the way to a NC by a score of 185-34. That's a pretty good beating @ a clip of 46-8 on average. I can't imagine the amount of shit (rightfully so) that would be flung for having 3 D2's on a schedule in this day and age.

If by "you" you meant Montana, that theory has been shot to hell in a handbasket already.

if by "you" you meant the BSC, let's take a look at the relative strength of the FBS opponents, shall we?

Sagarin ratings as of 11/8:
Cal 25
Michigan State 51
Wyoming 107
Colorado State 97
Arizona 14
Mississippi 38
UNLV 99
Arizona State 54
Oklahoma 26
Kansas 62
Oregon State 18

Versus:
Temple 65
Duke 60
Ball State 162
Kansas State 63
Virginia 66
Western Michigan 112
Syracuse 93
Navy 41
Maryland 101
Connecticut 52
Northwestern 78
Boston College 27

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at THOSE lists and know who stepped up to the tougher group of competition.

Oh, and FYI, Bryant-221, St. Francis (PA)-236, VMI-224, Lehigh-214, Georgetown-241, Dartmouth-209, and Morgan State-200 (which was a LOSS, by the way!)

And lest ye bring up Montana's IN-conference cupcakes, here's that argument defeated before you start:

Northwestern - 192
Rhode Island - 193
Towson - 195

and all THREE on UNH's schedule, along with Dartmouth and St Francis.
