If that was the case the griz wouldn't be in the top 25 this week.
Yes we would be in the range of the poll known affectionately to many as Bobcatville. Some polls have tried to take the sting out of it for you guys though and now call it Others Receiving Votes. I think that's the right move btw...you guys have suffered enough.

No sir you are still misunderstanding my point but that's my fault as I didn't make it real clear. I don't know how you do it as that is up to you but how I do it is to evaluate the teams thus far while taking into account there last performance and thereby adding a little of the "who's hot right now" factor. You see I'm not gonna punish UNI again when I already doled out there punishment once when they lost to SIU and again when they lost to SDSU. Now this week they right the ship a little and I should punish them again by one spot because SDSU had a bad game? That I can't do unless they show they have a proclivity for losing.

I try to evaluate the teams position (their resume got them there) and then make the adjustment as to what they are doing right now. Now if next week UNI throws a clunker in comparison to SDSU then I could see the better team trading places again. I hope that's a better job of splainin'. :thumb:

I knew what you meant the first time, just felt like bein' a dick

I'm much in the same boat with you, but righting the boat one week against a Youngstown team having a sub-par season who has been beaten just as bad by SDSU and SIU (talkin' about their victories over Youngstown, not their victories over UNI) and then placing UNI ahead of a team who won the head to head, has a better overall/conference record... meh.

If you couldn't rank teams ahead of the teams that beat them, here's what your top 25 would look like:

1. Southern Illinois
2. Montana
3. Elon
4. South Carolina St.
5. Florida A&M
6. Prairie View A&M
7. Butler

I appreciate that head-to-head logic has a place in polling, but as a hard and fast rule it just doesn't work. There will always be the inconsistent application of inconsistent results.

Good point. Hard and fast rules, as a rule, do not work.

That's why it shouldn't be the only criteria you rank upon, head to head isn't the only reason why I have SDSU ahead of UNI.

OK, fellas. If you want to have a poll that announces its results 12+ hours after every other major poll; has two dozen or so faithful voters; disses the AGS poll for the vengeful hell of it; and professes to be more profound than any other FCS poll because of where Holy Cross sits, fess up! Transparency, like greed, is good! :coffee:

Just so you know, the people (one person perhaps?) who know the answers to your questions are not regularly on the site.

No one who has is active in discussing the poll results is withholding this information from you.

Well, ligit question...once the poll is "there"...

I don't speak for anyone but me...but...it's been active for a few week...still shaking out the issues...

I believe I read that the poll in the "old country" went through the same bumps in the road...

Keep asking the question...just don't diss the one guy working his butt off to make this work...it will get there... :kisswink:

Not dissing anyone at all, Hogie...I know that it's coming along, and that a number of folks have worked very hard. :thumb: I just took umbrage at a few posts that took needless potshots at the AGS poll. I have to watch my tendency toward sarcasm. ;)

Personally I like the AGS poll very much and think great work has been done on it for years. I hope I haven't come across as taking shots at it as I can't remember doing so but I have shown some pride in this one and the fact that it seems to be coming up with some good results. I hope that has not come across in the wrong way. I'm just kinda proud of what we've gotten done in this thing in it's early going. A few people take shots at the AGS poll and a few take shots at this one as well. I just hope this isn't the beginning of another fracturing of friendships as it appears that is how this is going the last couple of weeks.

Here's what I know if it makes you feel like the transparency is there then good. The second week of the poll there was something like 42/45 voters...I can't remember exactly. There are about 70 voters registered in total. How many actually voted this week I don't know but I could go count up the # of posts of polls on the other thread and guess that it is about 1/2 of the actual votes as some don't want to put their polls up or haven't taken the time to do so. I am one that has not taken the time to do so.

Thanks, Ursus. That's very fine progress indeed! The AGS numbers have dropped some this year, particularly in the last few weeks. I wonder how many AGS voters have migrated over here for whatever reason. It takes time to think through a poll each week. Funny how much of the controversy is at the back end!

As I said last week, it's only MHO that the number should be made known, but that's a silly comment dane. SOMEBODY tabulates the results and then reports the results to SOMEBODY here so they can post it here... unless it's done in the dark of night where a briefcase is passed on a dimly lit bridge... that person CAN in fact tell the person here how many votes were submitted. :geek:

In week 1 everyone is playoff eligible (well, almost everyone, sorry IT). Interest wains and people stop voting. Plus you can't miss more than 2 weeks or you become ineligible.

Its not a silly comment at all. The person who does the calculations and tabulations isn't an active poster lately because of other committments and is not one who has been actively commenting (or commenting at all actually) in the poll threads.

I see what that person posts as the results before they are public and that does not include information on the number of voters. If it did, I would have no reason to not share it with you and Ivy. I've asked for the info myself on behalf of someone questioning it and it was not provided to me.

So it sounds like my briefcase on a dimly lit bridge scenario is pretty close to accurate. ;)

As of right now, yes I would say that is close. But my understanding is that it is like that for good reason and that reason it to perfect the system.

BTW, just to be clear, despite saying and believing that the AGS poll is whacked becasue it has Holy Cross WAY WAY WAY too high, I have nothing against the AGS system. I think it works fine and has proven to produce a very accurate poll in the past. This season however, I think the CS.com poll has produced superior results to date. But that's not to say that the CS.com poll is a superior poll. Its just different and it produces results that appear to be more accurate (to me at least) this year.

That's fine, but "results" is a bit misleading. The placement of Holy Cross is the only gripe you have. Jon's only gripe was how low NAU was in the AGS, but look what happened to them.
