Re: Post your poll - 10/31
UCA 5 - 3
Wins are - 2 DII's and the 2 worst teams in the SLC out of the 5 wins. 5th win # 118 FBS Western KY. How can you guys rank them high, or at all? I read all the time on here about quality of wins and strength of schedule. Come on, pay closer attention here.
I appreciate seeing TXST in there but I'm not sure we should be at this point. If we beat UCA, then, maybe.

Ursus, I don't know and that's why I decided to not do the poll this year. It is the first time I have really paid this much attention to and followed the whole FCS, from week 1. It's just my opinion that there has to be someone that's better than UCA out there. Isn't there?
I'm still trying to figure out who all the teams are, the conferences, the auto-bids, the "power" conferences. I have a handle on many of the perennial top teams, but I'm still far too lost to do this. Maybe next year. I can study more over the off season

They are at 20 in my poll and with so many teams taking a crap when they could be making a case for themselves it's a tough to judge this week. When a week like this starts happening I have to take a closer look at their losses and start looking at which I think are worse on resumes for comparison. It's all coming out of opinions right now about how you think teams would fare against each other. Since they are opinions you can't really stand too firmly behind them so I wouldn't and won't.CatMom wrote:Ursus A. Horribilis wrote: Please show us who should be in there instead Cat.

If you were completely honest with yourself about your feelings about UCA would you say you might possibly hold some negative feelings about them considering the banter from last year and early this year?

Something seems really off here. As of last week you had UNI at 9 and SDSU at 13? Then UNI drops 2 spots without losing and SDSU then jumps UNI? Something seems wacky there somewhere along the whole processJALMOND wrote:My poll. This week (last week)

Re: Post your poll - 10/31
An opportunity to clean up and fine tune it. After SDSU won this week, I was able to move them up past UNI who they beat the week before. Every week there are teams that have a bye, so I take the opportunity to move them up, down, or leave them in order to tidy up a bit. A bye never means that they can stay exactly where they were.clenz wrote:Something seems really off here. As of last week you had UNI at 9 and SDSU at 13? I dunno, looks like a dry week coming up.guinzone wrote:I am not even joking... I put SDSU as #1 in the country. When they beat SIU on Saturday, you will ALL know why. They are nothing flashy, but they were eerily remiscient of Tressel teams from the 90s at Stambaugh this past Saturday.
Their execution, coaching, lack of turnovers, and just flat our heart is the best I have seen in person in many many years.
I think most, if not all, teams in the Top 10 have better athletes and speed than SDSU, but for the reasons above, they will be VERY tough to beat.
You matter. Unless you multiply yourself by c squared. Then you energy.

About that last part, no. I am being as objective as I can, from an SLC point of view...it's the conference I see and know best. Not saying what everyone repeats ad nauseaum about last year doesn't bother but it is not a factor in my thinking here. I am umimpressed with UCA after seeing them play and their record, up close. And as much as I think TXST should have a better record, they don't and I have seen, first hand, why. This past week was their real first "complete" game and with our record (who we have beaten), don't think they deserve a poll spot either.
The SLC is a mess right now (so to speak) and, for the moment, I would have McNeese and SFA in the poll, but no one else, except as "others receiving votes", until possibly after next week. It has happened before. TXST didn't crack the polls last year until the playoffs happened.
UCA was put in early on and, I suppose, folks are having a hard time dropping them out. Is it reputation? record? I don't know. I'm watching, listening and learning

Re: Post your poll - 10/31
Good info. to hear from an SLC fan Catmom. I may be giving the SLC teams a bit too much cred. They are normally real good offensively and middle of the road as far as defense goes. Considering McNeese took down App in a defenseless shootout then maybe that is falsely giving me the feeling that they are better all around than they are. I'll look at this more closely next Sunday.CatMom wrote:Ursus A. When a week like this starts happening I have to take a closer look at their losses and start looking at which I think are worse on resumes for comparison. It's all coming out of opinions right now about how you think teams would fare against each other. Since they are opinions you can't really stand too firmly behind them so I wouldn't and won't.
If you were completely honest with yourself about your feelings about UCA would you say you might possibly hold some negative feelings about them considering the banter from last year and early this year?

But, but they had a quality loss to FBS WVU and if it hadn't of been raining and if Thorpe had of been the starting QB they would have beaten JMU. Plus they have a quality win over Lafayette. You two are ridiculous if you don't think they are better than UNI or EWU/Weber.
