2009 Big South Thread: Chase for the Non-Auto-Bid Trophy
At the end of the year, Kyle Kallander will hand the Non-Auto_bid Trophy to one of the lucky members of the Big South... and so I will use this thread for discussion about the rest of the year...
The Big South is looking pretty interesting right now...
Standings:
1. Stony Brook 3-0 (4-4)
2. Gardner-Webb 2-0 (5-2)
3. Liberty 2-0 (5-2)
4. Coastal Carolina 1-2 (3-4)
5. VMI 1-3 (2-5)
6. Charleston Southern 0-2 (2-5)
7. Presbyterian 0-2 (0-7)
This week's games...
Presbyterian at Liberty (Revenge is sweet)
Coastal at Clemson (C'mon Chants!)
SBU at G-W (Really good game, will play a key role in figuring out who wins the Big South)
CSU at VMI (Time to see if CSU is for real)

It has looked like there is definately a big three in the Big South.
The SB-GW game will decide which one of those are the biggest threat to Liberty

I wish the NEC winner would play the Big South winner instead of the freaking PFL winner.
If Albany wins out yet again, we'll be travelling to either of the following:
Butler
Dayton
Drake
Great. Really great.

Re: 2009 Big South Thread: Chase for the Non-Auto-Bid Trophy
Presbyterian comes to town to face LU this weekend. Last year, in Clinton, the Flames decided to stay at the hotel and lost by 3, 31-28. All this week, all over the Football Ops Center, there have been signs up that say "31-28" in scoreboard-like numbers. And everyone in the building knows what that means.
While all eyes will be on GW vs. SBU, at least any eyes that give a crap about the Big South, my fat self will be front row on the fifty behind the Blue Hose bench giving them hell and hoping we get revenge for last year. This isn't just your average game of #23 vs. #116, or 2-0 vs. 0-2, or 5-2 vs. 0-7. This game means a lot to LU's coaches, players, and teams. This is revenge.

That could get ugly and fast! You want to talk about revenge for a game that could have actually changed a program!ToTheLeft wrote:Presbyterian comes to town to face LU this weekend. For the past year, LU fans have been saying "Stupid Hose" over and over and over. And this week, we finally get to slap those Hose around a little bit in our backyard and get some much needed revenge.

Re: 2009 Big South Thread: Chase for the Non-Auto-Bid Trophy
Liberty took care of business today, and SBU beat Gardner-Webb, setting up an epic show down on Long Island to end the year... I wish I could make the trip... I might try to...

Should be a great game. I wish MSG or Yes would pick it up for broadcast.

In what universe can a 2-5 team be considered "for real"?ToTheLeft wrote:At the end of the year, Kyle Kallander will hand the Non-Auto_bid Trophy to one of the lucky members of the Big South... and so I will use this thread for discussion about the rest of the year...

The one where not everything revolves around the CAA...
CSU fans have been saying they're the 3rd best team in the Big South, and they needed to prove it starting this week, and they did. They're 3-5 now. And seem a little bit "for real" in terms of maybe being a top 3 team in the Big South. Although, the loss to G-W hurts, now that G-W lost to SBU.

This is the "Big South" thread not the "Douchebag CAA/SoCon Circle Jerk" thread.
This is all relative to the Big South. It has nothing to do with your teams or conferences...

fine, but even in the lonely world of the Big South, Chuck South should not be considered "for real" with a 3-5 record... it just makes your conference seem more pathetic. By all means brag it up onb Liberty and Stony Brook, but I wouldnt go about talking about anyone else there.ToTheLeft wrote:This is the "Big South" thread not the "Douchebag CAA/SoCon Circle Jerk" thread.

How about you leave the Big South talk to someone who follows it, kay?

Uhhh??? WTF Travis?
Talk about a completely random attack?
Interesting.

Just trying to talk about the Big South, not hear about how Towson would win the Big South and how Liberty would finish last in the SoCon. If I wanted to hear about how the Big South stacked up against other conferences, I would look at playoff records and GPI. We're not a major conference. I never claimed we were. Just stirring up discussion amongst the Big South fans that come to this site...

Oh, ok....I guess you didn't get the memo, you have to blow Travis to be able to do that.ToTheLeft wrote:Just trying to talk about the Big South, not hear about how Towson would win the Big South and how Liberty would finish last in the SoCon. I think it was pretty clear what your intentions were. Not sure what happened to this thread.

...I think it is important for these teams to finish strong because they will need that momentum for next year when you get the AQ..
"Born in other countries, yet believing you could be happy in this, our laws acknowledge, as they should do, your right to join us in society, conforming, as I doubt not you will do, to our established rules. That these rules shall be as equal as prudential considerations will admit, will certainly be the aim of our legislatures, general and particular." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Hugh White, 1801
Re: 2009 Big South Thread: Chase for the Non-Auto-Bid Trophy
Big South update for this weekend...
1. Stony Brook 4-0 (5-4) this week: Bye
2. #18 Liberty 3-0 (6-2) this week: vs. VMI
3. Gardner-Webb 2-1 (5-3) this week: @Coastal Carolina
4. Charleston Southern 1-2 (3-5) this week: @Presbyterian
5. Coastal Carolina 1-2 (3-5) this week: vs. Gardner-Webb
6. Virginia Military Institute 1-4 (2-6) this week: @ #18 Liberty
7. Presbyterian 0-3 (0-8) this week: vs. Charleston Southern
Everything is setting up for a Liberty v. Stony Brook Big South Championship game on Long Island this month... but both teams have a couple of tests left. Stony Brook must win @CSU, and Liberty must hold serve against VMI and win at Boiling Springs against G-W. Otherwise, the LU/SBU game might just be for a share of the Big South Championship.
** Stony Brook can clinch a share of the Big South Championship with a win over CSU and a Liberty loss to VMI or G-W.
** Liberty can clinch a share of the Big South Championship with a win over VMI and G-W and an SBU loss to CSU.
** G-W must win out for any shot at a share of the Big South Championship
** All other teams must win out and get help, and no teams other than Liberty, SBU, and G-W can win the outright BSC championship.
1. Stony Brook 4-0 (5-4) this week: Bye
2. #18 Liberty 3-0 (6-2) this week: vs. VMI

4. Charleston Southern 1-2 (3-5) this week: @Presbyterian

Re: 2009 Big South Thread: Chase for the Non-Auto-Bid Trophy
The Great West i think deserves an Auto bid as well, especially if a brand new conference like yours gets one next year. We just need to find another team to join (and for some reason that is being a total pain in the ass). The Great West has proven this year it can compete with Big Sky and other conference teams.

I'm callilng it now...GW will end Liberty's playoff hopes (however small they may have previously been).

Just a gut feeling? Or based on something?
