IF UD gets to 8-3, they'll have a win over either 'Nova or Navy. Does that not sound quality to you? Also, when I refer to quality win, I mean one that the committee will lend credence to. For the last four years, UNH has benefitted as a result of wins over FBS teams that had less than stellar records. Do you suddenly think that benefit will not exist? Trust me, from the committee's perspective, any FBS win is a quality win. There was a quote on the matter that I'd be happy to look up for you..dbackjon wrote:You seem to have created a self-fulfilling circle - beating each other becomes "quality" wins.WrenFGun wrote:
Would there be 8 other teams with better resumes? All six teams that would go would 1. Have a quality win (UD over Nova or Navy, UMass over UNH, UNH over 'Nova and Ball State, 'Nova over UD and Temple, W&M over UD and Virginia, Richmond over UD, Duke) so you just can't keep one of them out if they get to 8 wins. Is there something about UNI's resume that's better than any of these teams other than that they are 3rd in the MVFC?
Temple and Ball State are NOT quality wins. You are counting UD as a quality win for all, assuming that they will beat Navy. If they don't beat Navy, they won't have a quality win.
If Missouri State wins out, that would be a quality win under your standards.

Yes, if UD is 8-3, they will have a quality win (sorry, missed that part).
And unfortunately, the committee can't see the forest for the trees - like a win over a 24-30 schollie D-II team is BETTER than a win over a hapless non-schollie like Iona, or just because a team is FBS doesn't make it a quality win.

Can't argue with that. It would be helpful if the NCAA determined things based on scholarship level and not divisional affiliation, but what can we do?dbackjon wrote:Yes, if UD is 8-3, they will have a quality win (sorry, missed that part).

I've said it before, I think we need to have a counter-rule for playoff criteria purposes.WrenFGun wrote:Can't argue with that. All wins over DI schools count.
One win over DII schools can count if they offer an average of 32.4 scholarships in the preceding 2 years (90% of Division II maximum).
Being punished for playing one DII is the equivalent to FBS teams being punished for playing on full-scholarship FCS team. If that were the case the FCS teams would be up in arms. It should be consistent.
This will become more important when we add 2 at-larges next year.

Since clearly Sacred City isn't going (boo hoo!), my revised prediction is as follows:
Griz vs. Flames in Chatty. Griz win.
Griz vs. Flames in Chatty. Griz win.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Where the hell did the phrase "up in arms" come from anyway? Does it make sense to anyone?danefan wrote: If that were the case the FCS teams would be up in arms.

Up in arms:
Angry, rebellious, as in The town was up in arms over the state's plan to allow commercial flights at the air base. This idiom originally referred to an armed rebellion and was so used from the late 1500s. Its figurative use dates from about 1700.
