The Yankees organization sure has a flair for Halloween promotions, what with handing out the thousands of empty seat costumes and playing those cricket sounds!

On one hand, if the Yankees win, JoltinJoe will be even more insufferable, and I can't hold the fact that the Dbacks have won a World Series more recently than the Yanks have.
On the other hand, I would like to see the greatest hitter ever*, A-Rod, get a ring and shut the unappreciative, unknowledgeble Yankee Fans up.

Watch the replay on SportsCenter tomorrow. Had it been about 30 feet more to the right it had a great chance to hit the UTZ potato chips sign. Good thing you have to pitch three other guys in this series.
Just remember, we're Pedro's daddy.

Tonight:

Re: Yankees/Phillies World Series....
BTW, for those Jeter detractors, note Jeter's 3/4 performance against a pitcher who otherwise looked a lot like Bob Gibson in Game 1 of the '68 series.
Jeter's double in the third was a great example of why he is a superlative hitter. Lee got great location on the fastball, low and on the outside corner, but Jeter dropped his hands, lowered his bat handle, and simply pushed the ball down the line.
Jeter's single up the middle was another example. Lee again made a great pitch, up and inside, but Jeter shortened his swing, drew his elbows in, turned his wrists with extra force at impact, and pushed the ball through the middle. Textbook, just as a batting coach would tell you to do it -- just hit it trhough the middle of the field. To someone who doesn't grasp the art of hitting, Jeter's hit looked like a seeing-eye cheapie up the middle. But it was really a great example of a professional hitter understanding that the pitcher had great stuff, and that you had to approach him with the idea that you had to take what he was giving you. You weren't getting a lot of hitter's pitches last night with Lee. He had great command, and you were not going to work him into a hitter's count where you could sit on something.
What many of you saw last night (who don't see Jeter regularly) demonstrates why Derek Jeter will reach 3,000 hits when he is just 36 years old. It is no accident that he gets so many hits.

Joe, you were the one detracting from Rollins before anyone spoke a word about Jeter. I certainly didn't detract from Jeter at all. Maybe some of the Yankee haters did, but not me. Jeter's obviously one of the best of all time.JoltinJoe wrote:BTW, for those Jeter detractors...<snip>
The funny thing though is how NO ONE (except people that actually follow the Phillies) gave them any credit at all for all they've done. I checked ESPN's expert picks and every analyst but one picked the Yanks to win the series, most in five or six games. Same thing before the NLCS vs the Dodgers. Today on ESPN, they're all talking about how AJ is going to dominate Pedro and how Pettite will trump Hamels. Then of course you have that lame excuse for a credible newspaper, the Post, dishing out unprovoked garbage about Philadelphia, the Phillies, and their fans. Don't think it didn't motivate the Phils last night.
It makes it so satisfying to dominate the Yanks.
Bonus observation: Even before the Phils started really dominating last night, I couldn't help but notice how much worse of an atmosphere the new Yankee Stadium is compared to the House that Ruth Built. I really think they've passed the tipping point up there where the working-man, boisterous lunch pale fan just can't justify dropping that much coin to go to a game. It was a very subdued, corporate crowd. Far different that the zoo you'll see in Philly on Saturday. Maybe that's why the Post went off on Philly? Have they forgotten what real fans look and act like in New York?
Bonus observation #2: Peter King from SI said he wanted to get a hot chocolate at the New Yankee Stadium until the vendor told him, "That'll be $10." WHAT THE FUCK?

In a regular cup, hot chocolate is a paltry $5.

And did you really think $10 for a hot chocolate is a surprise? You can also get a 24oz beer for $10, which is a freaking deal if you ask me.
I loved Yankee Stadium and have many fond memories there. I love the New Yankee Stadium as well. Its not worse, its just different.
And, BTW - tickets for the game in Philly are more expensive than tickets for the game at Yankee stadium. Check out stubhub.

As a baseball fan Derek Jeter is the only reason to like anything about the Yankee's... maybe Mariano Rivera is a likable as well...
but the rest of that organization is poison including from the top down
The worst thing that's happened to MLB in the last 50 years
But Jeter is a baseball fans baseball player

Not entirely true. The Phillies have been packing in 46K per game. The Yanks had 50K last night. That's a 4K delta.danefan wrote:9,000 or so less seats is one thing.SunCoastBlueHen wrote:

There may be a few things at work here. The Yanks dates are weeknight games. The weather forecast has been bad. Getting in and out of Yankee stadium is more of a chore and everything costs more. There are only three games in Philly. The whole city rallies around the Phils. Etc.
