I assume you're going on UNH beat Nova and Nova beat W&M but forgiving UNH's loss to UMass. What happens if W&M beats UNH?
Correct on the reasoning. If W&M beats UNH, the poll collapses into itself, never to return again. In reality, UNH goes to the back of the line and probably drops below 7th, depending on how they perform.
I really struggled with all of that. At some point, one of the results is an outlier and I had to go with the Umass one. But I always revisit that and look and see whether it's an outlier or something else. The close call against Hofstra almost conviced me, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt being at Hofstra.
It's tough. I know UNH beat Nova head to head, but they've had by far the weakest schedule of the three (STF, BSU and DC combined 2-17). The loss to UMass, the close game at Hofstra and squeaking by St Francis... it was the opener, but still. And they beat Nova by basically the home field. If W&M beats UNH, that will really make things muddled.

Yea, when I revisted my poll today to post it I thought "that's a little high for UNH," but just didn't know what to do.

Anybody who has SIU ahead of Montana is ridiculous. For the sake of polls the only two undefeated teams in FCS from power conferences have to be ranked 1,2. Now matter what their schedule because they are from power conferences and are FCS powerhouse teams. Their conference schedule alone is enough to sustain them if they are undefeated at this point in the season. Do you think a 6-1 florida would be ranked higher than an 7-0 Oklahoma, Ohio st., Miami, USC or Texas, hell no. Even if their non-conf schedule wasn't as good. A undefeated power team will always be higher than a one loss power team. End of story.
(Understand that I am not saying that UM is better than SIU only that for poll rankings this is the formula that is followed)

The fact that they beat Charleston Southern by 59 is reason enough to keep them at #1..

That same Charleston Southern team that Liberty fans are holding up as their "signature" in-conference win?

Uh....you gotta rulebook on the polls?
Even looking at all of the FBS Top 10s this doesn't hold water. 6-1 USC is consistently ranked above undefeated Cincinnati and Iowa teams.
Plus you're dealing with apples and oranges. FBS teams don't open up with NFL teams. An FCS school that opens up with an FBS school usually takes a loss. I think it's fair to say that for the purposes of this poll, SIU is undefeated.
Wins? Multiple? Hah. Explain that one to me. EIU is slightly better than a win over Lafayette, by your own admittance, since EIU is barely higher than where Lafayette would be hypothetically. Who else has EKU beat?
UTM, who has only beaten SEMO St., Murray State, and a Sub DI
Murray State, who has only beaten TSU and a Sub DI
Tennessee Tech, who has 3 OVC wins, none over EIU or JSU, and a sub DI.
Liberty has beaten Lafayette and Coastal Carolina, who has at least won something out of conference. (Monmouth and NCA&T) And then a couple of scrub wins. I would say LU's wins are equal. No clear advantage to either team...
Both have respectable FBS losses.
So then it comes down to FCS losses... JMU in their last game with healthy Dudzik, or Austin Peay AND Tenn. St?
I think LU wins that battle.
Alright you have worn me down and beat my logic out of me. Now the only reason I can use for not having you in is that freak Falwell...

You assertion is absurd. Would you not include the Marshall game if it had been a win? SIU is not undefeated.

Umm...your comparison is a joke. U are implying that the Griz historically would be Iowa or Cincinnati in FBS football. More like Texas, Ohio st, or Oklahoma; and as I said they would never be ranked below a one loss Florida team, or a one loss team of the a fore mentioned. We are talking about a team that has been to 16 straight playoffs, and have more wins since 2000 then ANY DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL TEAM. They are hardly Iowa or Cincinatti, oh and by the way the Big East is far from a power conference anymore.

Yeah, in the same way your 15 point win at Sac State in the Big Fluffy is a signature win for the Griz.
It's tough to have a signature conference win when you've only played 2 conference games, and both teams you've played combine for one conference win... wait til the end of the year once we play GW and SBU...

If that's how you feel then thats how you feel. He was a pretty polarizing guy. It just sucks that a bunch of kids playing football will have to deal with people not giving them respect based on one man who not only has passed away, but has very little to do with football, aside from the fact that he was the one that wanted to start the team... Once again, I can't wait for the auto-bid... takes more and more of this crap out of the control of biased people and puts it on the field so our boys can do their job.
