SDSU did not win at GSU, they beat them in Brookings.
I still don't know how good they are yet, as they really haven't been tested. We are about to find out with their last few games. SDSU has UNI, SIU, and Minnesota left. I say they lose 2 of those 3 and are praying for a playoff spot.

Re: Playoffs: Where we stand (10/17)
So what your saying is that the only way SDSU gets into the playoffs is to win the conference? I think thats a bit off. If they beat SIU or UNI and finish tied for the top or for in second, and plays Minnesota tough, what does UNI have thats that much better than SDSU? They beat all the same people basically, except that GSU is looking like a stronger OCC game than anything UNI has. I think they still have as good a shot as UNI if that happensDJH wrote:SDSU did not win at GSU, they beat them in Brookings.

I'm just telling you what I think. If SDSU loses two more games, I would not feel comfortable if I were a Jacks fan. They might still make it, but I wouldn't put money on it.Thumper 76 wrote:So what your saying is that the only way SDSU gets into the playoffs is to win the conference? I think thats a bit off. Why would UNI be a lock then and SDSU iffy? And if they lose to UNI but beat SIU then they are tied for the top of the conference, in which case I think they have a solid shot at the playoffs as well. Or, even crazier, if they lose to both SIU and UNI, but beat Minnesota? What happens there?
So far, SDSU has only played one team that is worth a darn, and they lost to them. We'll see how good they are in the last part of this season.

In all fairness, the same can be said about UNI as well. (well, two teams worth a darn and two losses in UNI's case. though I don't hold the loss to Iowa against them, any more than I'd hold a loss to MN against the Jacks. Granted, their game against the Gophers might not be the toughest on their remaining slate)DJH wrote:So far, SDSU has only played one team that is worth a darn, and they lost to them. I'm not comparing them to UNI. I'm just talking about their chances for the playoffs, and how good they have looked this year. They lost to the only good team they have played so far, and had to hang on at the end to beat a bad MSU team.

Jacks recognize that they need 8 D-I wins to make play-offs. If they get there, they have a good group of opponents to be a hands down selection.MrTitleist wrote:SDSU not getting into the playoffs would be a travesty.. but they still need to beat the two better teams ahead of them.. or at least split to make the bid interesting.
The better Ga Southern does, and the better Cal Poly does, the better for the Jacks.
There were too many wins by the CAA vs FBS for the FBS winners to NOT be the best of the 7-4, all D-I teams for the Jacks, Salukis, Panthers to make the play-offs. Southland, MEAC, Patriot, GWFC, Big South, NEC have substantially weaker resumes with win outs to oust 8-3 MVFC teams.

SE LA can only qualify as the AQ out of the SLC. Started with two non-D-I teams, then lost two D-I games (Ole Miss, USD) and needs ALL 7 wins in the Southland to get to the MINIMUM 7 D-I wins.dbackjon wrote:Winning big at Georgia Southern is a semi-quality win (+ for SDSU)AZGrizFan wrote:

Neither have a quality win. See the difference?
Losing big at South Dakota is not good (-10 for SELA)
AZVANDALFAN and Mr. TopFlite - you may resume your discussion
SDSU needs to win vs EITHER SIU or UNI to end up with 8 D-I wins. IF Jacks win BOTH of these HOME GAMES, Jacks should be in the discussion for a seed.

Most likely MVFC teams are corretly:
SDSU
UNI
SIU
To not mention SDSU is short sighted. Neither of the "favorites" has a defense as good as SDSU and both play at SDSU. I expect SDSU to split those games, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit to see them win both.
Its also true that UNI is now on the outside looking in. Both SIU and SDSU are undefeated. One more loss, SDSU probably, puts them out of the running.

About all they can say is they won. Both teams were pummeled. The only team that I think actuall went out and handed it to us was SDSU.
I wasnt really that impressed with either SIU or UNI. UNI has now lost a conference game and both teams didnt show much defense last week. SDSU sits atop the MVFC in overall defense dominating the stats up and down the list. They both better be ready to win in Brookings with less than 17 pts. After seeing the SDSU defense I dont think they can. Even if its a shoot-out SDSU has the tools to stay with either of them.

SDSU lost to the only top 25 team they've played so far (Cal Poly, although I did rank GSU this week). They could very easily go 0-4 in their next 4 games (UNI, SIU, YSU, Minnesota). Let's not give the NC to them just yet.JBB wrote:About all they can say is they won. Both teams were pummeled. The only team that I think actuall went out and handed it to us was SDSU.

I definately wouldn't give the Jacks anything yet. They have to play a full game yet this year, and also I want to see them play well in a game against a good team and win (excluding the Bison). For some reason they have had problems with that. They most definately have to tools if they click on all cylinders to be a team that really opens peoples eyes, but they gotta play like it first.AZGrizFan wrote:SDSU lost to the only top 25 team they've played so far (Cal Poly, although I did rank GSU this week). Here's a newsflash, Poindexter, UNI is pissed off about looking bad against the Dawgs and they are going to take it out on the Jacks. Last week's defense was actually quite good by both teams, what you must have have missed is that the FCS' leading rusher and No. 2 rated QB were at the game and battling for the league crown. Both defenses were going against two of the highest powered offenses in the FCS.

Re: Playoffs: Where we stand (10/17)
Yes, he did. He also noted that SD St. has to play UNI and SIU, the two Valley opponents who have looked better thus far, and an FBS game at Minnesota. Winning one of three will get them in. Lose all three and they're out. The only remaining opponent of note for both UNI and SIU is SDSU. SIU would have to lose three of five to be sitting at home on Thanksgiving. A UNI team at 8-3 will get in, which is very likely. A South Dakota State team at 8-3 will get in. I don't think they'll get there, but I could always be wrong. Now stop being dense in the pursuit of sticking it to UNI.JBB wrote:The guy that started this thread didnt even mention SDSU. its UNI that is outside looking in. The top playoff teams from the MVFC:

defenses react differently in different situations.
If a teams offense is putting lots of points on the board, defenses don't have to be as stingy, and can play some "bend but don't break". Or if they have a sizable lead, they can even play a "bend and eventually break as long as it chews up clock".
So while UNI's defense giving up that many yards to NDSU isn't really a good thing, it doesn't really mean jack squat towards predicting how much success the Jackrabbits will have against them.
