I had forgotten about the broken footDukeJack wrote:End of half, Nova leads 20-0
No choice. Dudzik's foot is broken, our third string guy transferred this spring because he saw he wouldn't get any playing time, and our backup now for Thorpe is a freshmen currently redshirting and Mickey doesn't want to lose that just to provide some cover. Kerby Long, one of our wideouts, was a quarterback in HS but I dont know how much the coaching staff has been utilizing him in practice. In short, we don't have anyone else.dbackjon wrote:Why is Thorpe still in there?

Final, Villanova 27-0
First JMU shutout since VA Tech in 2003, first FCS shutout, since Richmond in 2002, and first home shutout since App State 1990
There's really nothing to say

No doubt. They're in the CAA South, the better half of the best conference in FCS. As of the start of today's games, here are the most difficult schedules in FCS:TwinTownBisonFan wrote: this is a HELLACIOUS schedule for the Dukes

4. Northeastern - .592

They're JMU - they could be 0-9 and should be ranked in the top 20

Funny but I remember how some JMU fans were stating that the Duke's ship would continue to sail in calm waters even after Landers left.. I'm sure they are singing a different tune now. JMU has major QB problems.. Dudzik is as fragile as china and Thorpe isn't nearly good enough. However the Dukes will get no sympathy from UD fans as the Hens were in a much worse QB pickle last year.

You should head over to the CAAZone JMU board then. It's not pretty.ChickenMan wrote:Funny but I remember how some JMU fans were stating that the Duke's ship would continue to sail in calm waters even after Landers left.. Re: Villanova at JMU Game Thread
Whats sucks for JMU fans is that with an above avg QB JMU is certainly in the the thick of the CAA title race, playoff race, and is an NC contender. But because of an extreme deficiency at one position, the most important position on the field, JMU likely finishes 5th in the CAA South/7th-9th place place team in the CAA overall.
I'm sick of the "he's just a freshman excuse for Thorpe. He's 2 yrs out of HS. He's been on the team 2 yrs. He's a 2nd yr QB- and for a 2nd yr QB he's pretty bad. There's plenty of other 2nd yr QBs in the CAA who've done really well. For example look at Whitney last yr at Nova.
He won't ever be a "great" QB for this level. He's a great athlete, but he's not a QB. He
-can't read a defense
-can't find open receivers
-is unable to make a quick decision with passing or the option (or the right decision)
-has a great arm, but spotty at best accuracy.
-has poor ball security. 5 turnovers in 3+ quarters, 3 of them being fumbles (from about the 6 min mark of the 3rd qtr of the UR game to the about 4 1/2 min mark of the 2nd qtr of the Nova game.
Nova did similar to what VMI did- stacked the box and dared him to throw. That was the one decent game (playing about 1/2 the series) Tuck, Run and Fumble had passing the ball. But against VMI you had far inferior personel than Nova has. And the rest of JMU's opponents will I'm sure try similar- load the box, blitz, and force Tuck, Run and Fumble to make quick decisions, find and hit the open receiver, which at this point he is incapable of doing. 13 of 32 with open receivers all game long, and he couldn't see them or couldn't hit them.
JMU won't make the playoffs in 2010 with Tuck, Run and Fumble at QB, even though 14-15 starters should be back, because probably the 6 best players on the team (for their respective positions) are seniors. But with Dudzik, maybe.
In 2011, considering their is only 1 junior on the entire 2 deep on defense (Ronnell Brown at DT), their should be 16 starters back from 2010, and the team will be loaded enough that IF Tuck, Run and Fumble is still the QB by making a huge improvement to the level of being mediocre CAA QB, JMU will be back in the playoffs. But JMU will never win the NC with Tuck, Run and Fumble at QB, and unlikely would ever realistically contend for it.

From who? I don't recall anyone (on this board) giving either of you grief about this. Chet brought up how people were giving shit about App state but not JMU to which I referenced DBJ and AZ's bemoaning that JMU shouldn't be ranked and App should be dropped much lower too. The only shit people were giving you Jon is that you thought at the time NAU should be ranked ahead of a bunch of teams that had done more/had better records. FWIW, I dropped JMU from the polls last week so neither of you heard any of this "shit" from me.dbackjon wrote:ChetSteadman wrote:And I caught shit when I called JMU out for being in the top-25 earlier this week...

I sat in the cold rain through a catholic wedding ceremony yesterday and missed this game... I guess I suffered the pain at the wedding that I would have gotten watching this game. I even got accosted later for trying to check the scores on my blackberry at the reception. Oh well...

The 2008 Delaware team is shedding a tear for you guys. You have the same issue we did last year & will come in with pretty much the same kind of record.BDKJMU wrote:Whats sucks for JMU fans is that with an above avg QB JMU is certainly in the the thick of the CAA title race, playoff race, and is an NC contender. Who has App beat that makes them Top 25 worthy...or at least worthy of being ahead of NAU? Was it the overtime win over The Citadel (who got beat by WCU)? No wait, it must've been the come from behind win against 1-5 Wofford. Good teams find ways to win. Mediocre teams have to do it a lot.
