OVC-What are they thinking???

Post by JSUrules »

What was the OVC thinking? They just released the OVC players of the week. For offensive player they selected Austin Peay’s Ryan White, RB, who carried the ball 32 times for 228 yds and 1 touchdown in their win over Southeast Missouri.

Let’s contrast that with Ryan Perrilloux’s output: he threw for 318 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 50 yds. in the win over Murray State.

It’s not that you could say that SEMO was a tougher opponent that Murray State. Going into both games each team had 4 losses and one win. The only possible reason I can see is they just didn’t want to give JSU’s Perriloux the OVC award for the 5 th straight week.

Is there something I’m missing?

Seems like you might be onto something there.

Alot of QB's have 300 yd games and make it look routine. A back taking the ball 32 times with all the pounding, in any game, is alot and to get over 200 yds in the process is a big deal. I can see it.

Sometimes you have to take a step back and be objective.

200 plus rushing games are pretty rare. Sounds like he earned it.

Your point is well taken and I applaud Ryan White's achievement. But, when judging who is best for the week, I'm kind of old-fashioned. To me, football is points on the board and yards on the field. It would have to be something really really exceptional (a 50+ yd field goal) that would make me go against that basic formula.

Our pre-season all american (who just got back from injury) was 26/129, which is a pretty damn good day but that puts him at just under 5 ypc. This guy averaged 7.1 ypc. That's a huge day. Perriloux will stay steady and may get the POTW again but as I said, I'd have voted for the RB

BTW our QB was 30/46 337 and 2 TD's. He won't get POTW.

take a scenario where you can throw 3 passes and each of those could be 20 yarders. That's 60 yards. A RB has a tougher job getting 60 yards and takes a lot more punishment in the process. I still find that more impressive. i would bet money the voters see it in a similar fashion.

Both players put up good numbers. White may have deserved the award, but it's also likely that some voters didn't want to vote for the same player 5 weeks in a row.

possible

You do realize I'm only up posting here because of the stupidly late baseball game. I should be in bed. It got cold here (for here) over the weekend (50's) after being in the 90's all last week. There isn't any gradual temp changes and time for a body to adjust. It goes from fucking hot to the 50's....almost 40 degrees in a day or 2. I need someone/thing to keep me warm :thumb:

Same here.

I'm tired, so I might not stay up for the whole game. Shame on MLB for starting a playoff game involving an east coast team after 10:00 EST.

I am with you on this one catmom. Even though Mr. Bluepants might be correct in his analysis that some voters may have selected "anyone bu perriloux" this week, I think the runner earned the award on his own merits.

Perhaps. Or it just could have been a very frustrating day for the old OVC. They have 3 ranked teams. No. 25 Eastern IL got murdered by Penn State. No. 16 Eastern Kentucky lost to TN State. Only JSU won.

Furthermore, it really complicates the playoff picture. Since JSU is ineligible (don't get me started on the injustice of that one), everyone assumed that Eastern KY, always a strong team, would win the OVC. Now, that's not so clear. TN State is now the only eligible team with no OVC losses. Eastern KY was the most difficult game on their schedule. They are the only OVC team that doesn't play JSU this year. Most people think that if TN state wins the OVC, they will fall in the first round. For Eastern KY to win the OVC, not only does TN State have to lose two conference games, but KY has to run the rest of its schedule and that includes winning over JSU at home. I wouldn't want to bet the farm on that happening. Those at the OVC are probably feeling the blues.

I hate to break it to you, but WHOEVER wins the OVC will fall in the first round. You guys are the designated cupcake for one of the CAA teams each year. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

JSU is a damm good team (ask Florida State0 but they wont get a chance to show how good the are.

Also 200 years rushing games are much more rare than 300 yard passing games. Perrilioux also played a great game, but the 200 yards rushing is a better feat IMO.

I really wish JSU was eligible. They could have made some noise in the playoffs
