Playoff Power Rankings
This 16 team poll represents the 16 teams currently most likely to make the playoffs.
1.Villanova - Key wins: Temple and William and Mary
2.Richmond – Key win versus Duke
3.New Hampshire – Key win versus Ball State
4.McNeese State – Huge road win in Boone
5.Northern Iowa – Haven't been tested on the FCS level yet
6.Montana – Held on in OT at NAU
7.Elon – Class of the Southern Conference
8.Southern Illinois – No big wins yet
9.William and Mary: Beat Virgina but lost chance at top spot in loss to Nova
10.Colgate – Undefeated, easy teams yes but undefeated
11.Eastern Kentucky – Good win against Eastern Illinois
12.Massachusetts – Beating up smaller teams so far
13.Appalachian State – one of two teams with a .500 record on the list
14.Cal Poly – Big game at Montana next
15.Florida A&M – Kings of the MEAC for the moment
16.James Madison – Lost to Hofstra and play three CAA teams ranked higher next
Bubble Teams:
Holy Cross, South Dakota State, South Carolina State
Add suggestions to shift teams around. Next week I'll fill it out with much more info, pics, or whatever.

Re: Playoff Power Rankings
While I don't disagree with MSU being a playoff contender and I don't want to detract from their win against ASU. It is not so big as it may have been a couple years ago. App seems to be struggling and they do have a 1-8 record against the SLC. Perhaps putting it to the opposition would be more like it. If their D has stepped up from the Henderson game I'll join the bandwagon on this. And don't get me wrong, I think they are the team to beat this year, even if we've had their number of late.

Well they are the top of the SLC for now with that win. Plus nobody is really winning in Boone lately, tough place to play. I agree that App St may not be as good this year though, but they will still be well above average.CatMom wrote:While I don't disagree with MSU being a playoff contender and I don't want to detract from their win against ASU. Re: Playoff Power Rankings
A week earlier I would have argued that SDSU should be in there, but with the loss as well as losing the startin QB for at least 4 weeks, the toughest stretch for the team, I have to say that how they do rests on the RS frosh QB a bit. Luckily he was neck and neck with the starter and didn't get dubbed starter due to seniority, and the Jacks offense doesn't call for the qb to carry the team. Also they have a great D. Well have to see if they are worthy of the bubble listing this weekend.

Please don't tell Obama what comes after a Trillion.

I know you can't even give a guess on the Big Sky, but believe it will get at least two teams in this year. Don't know who either, but someone will.

Re: Playoff Power Rankings
I think Holy Cross probably beats out Colgate at this point with an absolute demolishing of a weak NU team.... but still a similar win to a top middle of the pack CAA squad in terms of margin.
I don't think JMU makes the play offs this year. I don't think they are above .500 either though... so who knows.

Re: Playoff Power Rankings
Disagree with JMU being on there. We played very well at Maryland, and won convincingly (on the scoreboard) against VMI. Most JMU fans would agree that game was when our team first started showing signs of weakness, poor tackling, penalties, turnovers, and an inability to go for the throat we showed last year. Liberty was another game of the same type, but they played through a monsoon which impacted both teams negatively. Hofstra had the same conditions as Liberty, but we came out on the wrong side of the scoreline. They just flat beat out us.
We will most likely lose this week, as the visiting team has won every year since 2005. Eric Ward has said this came was circled last year after Scotty beat them, and it is parent's weekend where the kids sit quiet and non-vulgar next to their families. Additionally, Drew Dudzik has been ruled out with a concussion and we will be starting our redshirt freshman QB, Justin Thorpe. Villanova will be out for blood, as well. Just finishing 7-4 will be a major accomplishment for this team.

JMU was my last team in. I almost put in SCSU but I know MEAC will never get two teams and the committee seems to love CAA

I can't wait until next year. The fact that a Patriot league team will go to the playoffs this year and the winner of Albany/Central Conn has to go to some BS bowl game in the middle of nowhereville USA to play in front of 500 Butler parents is ridiculous.

I may lose my CAA-man card for this....but...I don't see the CAA getting 6 teams into the tourney...

JMU could be a 5-6/6-5 team this season.

At this point, I would agree with you, but if JMU gets it together and somehow knocks off Richmond and Villanova, all bets are off.Col Hogan wrote:I may lose my CAA-man card for this....but...I don't see the CAA getting 6 teams into the tourney...

Elon has a lucky win over Furman and that makes them the class of the SoCon? I don't know who the class of the conference is yet, neither does anyone else.

UCA isn't eligible yet. I think Stephen F. Austin will get an at-large out of the SLC (9-2 with loses to SMU and McNeese)AZGrizFan wrote:Here's my predictions:

I would change out FAMU for SCSU and Holy Cross for Colgate.
I also think EWU will win their appeal and will get in over Montana State.

What is it about SCSU that makes you so sure about that?
Elon is going to end up 8-3....not sure you'll be able to leave them out.
I guess we'll know the Colgate/Holy Cross answer on 10/24.
