In Nelson’s absence, sophomore Jonathan Hernandez rushed 29 times for 140 yards and three touchdowns.
Morris made clear that Nelson, the No. 6 rusher in UMass history, remains the go-to back. The emergence of Hernandez might make it easier to lessen Nelson’s load, though.
