Illinois State @ Southern Illinois: SIU. It's Hoecoming and the Dawgs are not going to lose this one.
South Dakota State @ Missouri State: SDSU. MSU is better this year but not that much.
Northern Iowa @ North Dakota State: UNI. The Panthers are just better.
Western Illinois @ Youngstown State: WIU. Just a gut pick. If Matt Barr is still hurt and can't play, the Penguins have a shot.
Bye @ Indiana State: Bye. The Sycamores will find a way to lose.

Re: MVFC Week 6 Predictions
Illinois State @ Southern Illinois: SIU is just a better team, however, I think this will be a tigher game. Not as tight as last year when the Red Birds screwed UNI over...haha...but tighter none the less.
South Dakota State @ Missouri State: SDSU is much better and MSU...well...just no.
Northern Iowa @ North Dakota State: I did a statitical break down for the UNI/NDSU game on Bisonville and didn't realize how far appart these teams are right now.
Western Illinois @ Youngstown State: can YSU rebound?

Re: MVFC Week 6 Predictions
SIU should be on upset alert, but I think they get the job done in a close win in their rivalry game.
SDSU beats MSU, but it could be closer than the experts think with SDSU's new QB.
UNI wins.
YSU shows some potential and beats a mediocre WIU team.

Re: MVFC Week 6 Predictions
Here was my break down of the UNI/NDSU game
NDSU has a great ground game, probably the only thing that has kept them "afloat" this season. So I did some looking at the stats to see what this saturday could bring. The first column is what NDSU does offensivley, and as expected some really good stats. However, the second column is UNI's ground D.
RUSHING YARDAGE 955 328
Yards gained rushing 1033 516
Yards lost rushing 78 188
Rushing Attempts 157 157
Average Per Rush 6.1 5.1
Average Per Game 238.8 65.6
TDs Rushing 11 2
On the other hand UNI's run O vs. NDSU's run D
RUSHING YARDAGE 1133 659
Yards gained rushing 1179 743
Yards lost rushing 46 84
Rushing Attempts 206 156
Average Per Rush 5.5 4.2
Average Per Game 226.6 164.8
TDs Rushing 12 9
I would love to see a close game, but looking at the comparisons something is going to have to give. UNI's run game is very good and NDSU's run D looks...well...average at best. NDSU has a great run game but UNI's run D is top 5 in the FCS. Sort of an unstopable object meets imovable object situation, which gives first?
Advantage: UNI
When it comes to the passing game the stats look something like this. This first set is NDSU offense vs. UNI defense and the second is UNI offense vs. NDSU defense.
PASSING YARDAGE 707 727
Comp-Att-Int 51-98-4 80-137-4
Average Per Pass 7.2 5.3
Average Per Catch 13.9 9.1
Average Per Game 176.8 145.4
TDs Passing 6 3
PASSING YARDAGE 1282 1005
Comp-Att-Int 84-125-2 61-105-2
Average Per Pass 10.3 9.6
Average Per Catch 15.3 16.5
Average Per Game 256.4 251.2
TDs Passing 12 7
The run game looked to be as close to a push as NDSU was going to get, but the passing breakdown goes very strongly in UNI's favor.
Advantage UNI
Those, of course, bring up the offensive totals for each school.
TOTAL OFFENSE 1662 1055
Total Plays 255 294
Average Per Play 6.5 3.6
Average Per Game 415.5 211.0
TOTAL OFFENSE 2415 1664
Total Plays 331 261
Average Per Play 7.3 6.4
Average Per Game 483.0 416.0
UNI is giving up half of what NDSU is averaging, and NDSU is giving up nearly what UNI is averaging.
Advantage UNI
The other stat that stood out to me was sacks. NDSU doesn't get them and UNI doesn't give them up. However, UNI has 16 sacks for a gross loss of 120, and NDSU has given up 11 for a loss of 61.

Illinois State @ Southern Illinois: SIU 27-7; Salukis roll over their instate rival
South Dakota State @ Missouri State: SDSU 35-17; Missouri State wakes up and realizes they're "not in Kansas anymore".
Northern Iowa @ North Dakota State: UNI 38-14; How BAD has NDSU become? Thy're fighting Indiana State for the cellar!
Western Illinois @ Youngstown State: WIU 14-10; YSU lost to NDSU. WIU's only win is against SHSU. It's the Midwest Toilet Bowl preview....

Re: MVFC Week 6 Predictions
First off, YSU never played NDSU this season. So I am a little lost at your logic, but I digress.AZGrizFan wrote:Illinois State @ Southern Illinois: SIU 27-7; Salukis roll over their instate rival

My Picks:
Illinois State @ Southern Illinois: SIU by 10, if this game was in Normal I'd think ILSU would stand a chance.
South Dakota State @ Missouri State: Kirby looked damn good against YSU and if it is true that SDSU lost their QB, I like MSU to win this one.
Northern Iowa @ North Dakota State: This is a game I could see the Bison upsetting the Panthers simply because the Bison's season is pretty much over, but it won't happen. UNI streamrolls the Bison by 24.
Western Illinois @ Youngstown State: YSU was not dominated by MSU, they turned the ball over 4 times, twice inside the 6 yard line, hence the reason they lost. The Penguins will bounce back with a 10pt win over a team they beat last year.

Western Illinois @ Youngstown State: WIU, YSU isn't quite there yet.
ISU @ SIU - SIU's D is too much for the middle of the pack. ISU can score but they can't stop Deji Karim, best RB in the MVC.
SDSU @ MSU - MSU takes the real upset special
UNI @ NDSU - Panthers feast on another bottom-tier MVC team.
WIU @ YSU - YSU wins a squeaker at home.

None of them want to listen. It has nothing to do with the fact that some of these players were on the 2007 team that played weaker competition, and now that they play harder teams every week. It has everything to do with Bohl.houndawg wrote:Gil Dobie wrote:Illinois State @ Southern Illinois: Upset special, SIU isn't as good as I thought they were

Yes, the MVFC is tough, and you all don't listen and seam to think Mertens is as good as Steve Walker, there is a punter as good as Dragosavich, any linebacker as good as Joe Mays on the current Bison team. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. These were recuits of Bob Babich, the Frosh and Sophs in 2007 were Bohls recruits.clenz wrote:None of them want to listen. Re: MVFC Week 6 Predictions
Understood, but you...maybe not you but most NDSU fans online (I get that isn't representative of the whole base though) thought that NDSU would have a title within 5 years of being eligible.Gil Dobie wrote:Yes, the MVFC is tough, and you all don't listen and seam to think Mertens is as good as Steve Walker, there is a punter as good as Dragosavich, any linebacker as good as Joe Mays on the current Bison team.
