right there on the borderline... the blow out loss is troubling, but they also played a FBS relatively close... I would put NAU in before Hofstra.

Re: Hofstra - top 25?
Let me say this, first: I had Hofstra in my top 25. However, after discussing with 93BlueHen and following the trail backwards, now I'm not so sure:
Hofstra's "signature" win is JMU. JMU's only wins are Liberty and VMI. Hofstra's only other wins are Stonybrook and Bryant. They got KILLED by Richmond, and beaten by an FBS team.
If I had it to do over again, I'd have to say no. However, they'll probably be 5-2 when they play New Hampshire on the 24th (next two games are Maine & Rhode Island), so I'm going to guess (because of the way CAA schedules work out) they'll continue moving up the top 25 rankings, with only one questionable quality win.
JMU, on the other hand, may not win again until Halloween.

Yes, but being 5-2 in the big bad CAA deserves ranking doesn't it??? I think the JMU win is quality but when you look at their overall resume' it is not that great.....

Will it still be "quality" when JMU is 2-5?putter wrote:Yes, but being 5-2 in the big bad CAA deserves ranking doesn't it??? I think the JMU win is quality but when you look at their overall resume' it is not that great.....

No.
CAA breakdown right now:
Top 10 teams: Nova, Richmond, UNH, W&M
Top 25 teams: UMass, JMU
Debatable: UD, Hofstra
By playoff time, I'm guessing JMU, UD, and Hofstra will have washed out and UMass will be on the bubble.

We'll see after next weekend, but I think UMAss is a top 10 team. I had them at 8 this week I think (bad short term memory).93henfan wrote:No.

Re: Hofstra - top 25?
I won't disagree. UMass is certainly trending up and JMU down in my "Top 25" group above. Saturday will be interesting. The Tub has been a graveyard for UMass over the years. The series is 22-6 Delaware and 12-3 in Newark. UMass should win, but I wouldn't count the Hens out.danefan wrote:

To the basic question of this thread....NO...
But trending up...the question is, when (if ever) does the up trend line of Hofstra cross the down trend line of JMU...
More to come on these two over the next few weeks...

Re: Hofstra - top 25?
Since i am the lone Hofstra fan on this site, i guess i should weigh in. Hofstra in the top 25, absolutely...not.
Here is why, the win against JMU is a big win for us no matter how the rest of the season goes for them. I personally think they will still be a good team at season's end, but with the win, we exorcised the demons of last year's beating.
The rest of the resume are two wins against teams that we should have beaten in SBU and Bryant, the loss to Western Michigan was competitive and IMO, a game we could have and should have won if we started the best QB. All in all, i think this is a team that should be somewhere around 30. If we get by Maine and URI, depending on how some other teams fair, i think we crack the top 25. Until then, 30 sounds about right and we will need to get ready for Maine.

You gonna stop by the tailgate??? I'm looking forward to a good game...like the last one at the Tub I attended in 2003...triple overtime...ended with a muffed punt by UMass...93henfan wrote:I won't disagree. Re: Hofstra - top 25?
I like Buck's reasoning. I'd also put them around 30 for now, but FWIW, the Sagarin Index (my favorite ratin' system) currently has Hofstra as the 24th best team in FCS land.

Btw, for the rest of you, I'm not sure I want to attend. Last time I saw the Col, he said he was looking forward to coming to Delaware so he could show off his Portuguese sausage.

In fairness to JMU though, with the slate of games they are looking at the next three weeks (Richmond, Nova, W&M), they can lose all three of those and still be a good team with an unfortunate schedule. What's nice is that they have the next two at home before going to W&M. The next few weeks will tell a lot about the Dukes.

Yeah, i just couldn't see a top 25 for them. They still have to prove to me that they can win tough games. If they beat Maine this week i'll feel better, but my jury is still out on the Dutch.∞∞∞ wrote:I like Buck's reasoning. Re: Hofstra - top 25?
I saw the Hofstra, Bryant game and was not impressed with Hofstra, Bryant had no trouble moving the ball against them, they had some big guys thats about it, JMU must really be in the tank this year? So my answer is no, not even in the top 50.

Re: Hofstra - top 25?
I have Hofstra in my 27-29 range right now. I about had them in, and my 21-25 picks could be switched with my 26-29 teams probably.

Take it easy buck tooth, it's only football , it's not like I was dissin your mom, the question was does Hofstra belong in the top 10, my answer was no. A D2 Team in all respects put a scare into your precious Hofsta and you get all postal on me. Please don't post if you can't handle the truth.Uncle Buck wrote:mass fan wrote:I saw the Hofstra, Bryant game and was not impressed with Hofstra, Bryant had no trouble moving the ball against them, they had some big guys thats about it, JMU must really be in the tank this year? Read the thread title , it's top 25 not top 10. It may only be football, but if you're going to say that we don't belong in the top 50, try and qualify your statement with facts. Your assessment of the Bryant game IMO is off, considering it rained like hell all game and we still won comfortably.
