Kickoff scheduled to be at 1 pm PDT at Portland's PGE Park between the two urban campuses in a mostly rural Big Sky conference. The Hornets come into the game 0-3 and 0-1 in conference play, having lost to Eastern Washington last week. The Vikings enter the game 1-3 and 0-2 in conference play after losing to Weber State in a close one last week. The Vikings only win came at home against NAIA Southern Oregon. This game has kind of a rivalry flair to it as the two cities (Sacramento and Portland) enjoy a competitive spirit in both the PCL and the NBA as well as the Big Sky conference. The Hornets won last year in Sacramento to stop an eight game losing streak to the Vikings. After spotting the Eagles a sizable lead at the half last week, the Hornets played the tough Eagle team virtually even in the second half, whereas the Vikings came from 18 points down against Weber State to take the lead late, only to watch the Wildcats score the winning drive with 15 seconds left. Weather is slated to have showers in the area and temps near 60.

Final
Sacramento State 31
Portland State 14
Sacramento State's offense continued its confidence it gained in the second half of last week's game against Eastern Washington in a rout of Portland State. The Hornets were able to do basically anything they wanted against a Viking team that was clearly flat from the start. The Vikings much heralded offense managed a late touchdown but the game was clearly over by then.

Sac finally gets a win this season. Unfortunately I was in San Antonio for an Air Force boot camp graduation so I didn’t see any of the game on BigSkyTV. From the stats, it looked as though the defense was able to bend but not break against PSU. Also the 3 forced turnovers and ability to run the ball on the offensive side kept the ball out of the hands of PSU.
It was good to see Sac get all of its game going at the same time. The defense was able to make some stops. The offense picked up where they left off last week, and the special teams was finally able to have a game where a PAT wasn’t missed or blocked. The Hornets will need to keep this momentum going into next week when ISU comes to town. 2-3 looks a hell of a lot better than 1-4 heading into the WSU – UM back to back gauntlet portion of the schedule.

I was there and believe me, it was very bad for PSU fans. The only good thing was the sun came out right before kickoff and stayed the whole game (still was rather cool, 50 degrees) so the cheerleaders got to take off their warmups and wear their outfits.SDHornet wrote:Sac finally gets a win this season. Don't worry, Jalmond. When hoops season comes, PSU will win the BSC WBB title.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
