Nichols wants to throw every down and can if he's allowed to, just ask Montana and McNeese in 2007 when he threw for over 400 against both.

I think if Jones is used correctly, his opportunities will be set up by passing first - especially against more physical teams like Montana and Weber. That will open up screens and draw plays to get him in space. His strenght lies in his speed. This may or may not bode well for his total rushing yards stat, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him lead the conference in total yards. And remember, Jones is just one other weapon to add to a loaded receiving corps including Seniors Aaron Boyce, Tony Davis, and a NFL prospect in TE Nate Overbay who already has 4 TD receptions on the season.
It seems like Nichols threw for 400+ against Portland State last year. Problem was that Hubel threw for 600+.
I'm pretty sure he did. If I remember right there was almost, if not more than a 1000 yds in that game. The thing is, we were really one dimensional last year with no run game. Now we keep defenses honest since we have a speed weapon on the ground in Jones. Should be an interesting game.

Hubel had a terrific game last year against a beat up EWU defense - I watched it in person.

My point is that I'm not sure your going to make a BSC offensive MVP about to break all of EWU's career passing records (including Payton Award winner Eric Meyer) uncomfortable about having to pass more because you've taken away Taiwan Jones.

But if you'd like to start a thread comparing Hubel to Nichols, I'm all ears. :thumb:

96 yard touchdown run by TAIWAN JONES!!! It was his athletic ability that let him break a couple tackles, get to the outside, then cut back to the other side of the field and burn it the rest of the way. This guy is for real Jalmond, wake up! :thumb:

Jones is hands-down the best back in the BSC right now. Albeit, most of his performances have been against inferior opponents. His numbers will probably go down some when we start playing the better half of the conference. It will be interesting to see if teams start to try to load up to stop him, because Nichols can throw all day long, and we have very effective receivers in Boyce, Davis, and Overbay.

Before the season, I saw somewhere that Jones was timed running a 4.22 40. I didn't believe it until I actually saw some of his runs. That 96 yarder against ISU was unreal. :o

His feet never stop movin... and he has great awareness. He's fast, but not 4.22 official time fast. He's probably closer to 4.3. Impressive nonetheless.
