Our defense looked like crap against McNeese. No doubt. But, they looked a hell of a lot better against Samford. We held them under 100 yards of offense through 3 quarters, held them under 200 yards for the game. Held Payton candidate Chris Evans to 87 yards rushing. Our defense has a shitload of talent. I think McNeese will turn out to be the exception rather than the rule.

So, I'll ask my question again since every ASU supporter seems to want to just avoid it...

Given that their records are the same...TODAY...Why does ASU deserve a #10 ranking...TODAY...and NAU doesn't...TODAY...

I'm being dead serious here - ASU deserves it because it's ASU. I'm not saying it's fair, but that is what happens with polls. Historically strong teams tend to get a benefit of the doubt. And since App started the season so high, and have only lost one FCS game (to a team now ranked ahead of them), then they do deserve it. Had NAU started in the top 5 and lost one FCS game by a fairly slim margin, they would likely be in the top 10 as well. It's the nature of a poll. You normally have to do something monumental to move up or down.

In essence, yes. That is the reason that no polls should come out before week 4 or 5.
