not even close.. last year was a total embarrassment to UD football.. not the 4-8 record.. the non-competitiveness of the team.89Hen wrote:You need to make up your mind as to what is a mediocre and bad season. Tubby's 4-7 season with a loss to West Chester isn't as bad as 4-8?

Re: KC is Van Helsing
89 .. you seem to love to point to Tubby's few bad years as a defense for KC.. but the fact is Tubby had only 4 seasons in which he lost 6 or more games and that was in 36 years! And for evey one of those poor seasons there were many many more 9, 10, 11+ win years. If this year goes as I expect KC will have matched those four seasons with 6 or more loses in just his first 8 years.
I'd lose the Tubby/KC comparisions if I were you...

Arguing over which was worse it futile, but going 4-7 with TWO DII losses vs 4-8 including a 14-7 loss at Maryland, a two point loss at Furman, losses to three teams that finished in the top 10... I'd say it's at least close.... but both suck.ChickenMan wrote:not even close.. last year was a total embarrassment to UD football.. not the 4-8 record.. the non-competitiveness of the team.

You're right in that comparing them is not a good idea. The days of CW Post, Merchant Marines, Gettysburg... are gone.ChickenMan wrote:in 36 years!

If you honestly think the CAA of 2008 is anything like DII or the Yankee or even the A10....

BTW, the only reason the 1983 campaign came up was in response to the notion that what happened last year had never been done in all of I-AA history.... turned out, it not only happened, it was the Hens that did it.89Hen wrote:Arguing over which was worse it futile, but going 4-7 with TWO DII losses vs 4-8....

So the CAA is now just too tough for poor ole Delaware.. great we'll keep KC and be happy if we get just one good year out of evey four. Talk about lowering the bar...89Hen wrote:If you honestly think the CAA of 2008 is anything like DII or the Yankee or even the A10....

My turn to say answer the question... Do you honestly think the CAA of 2008 is anything like DII or the Yankee or even the A10?

No the CAA is a very tough league.. but THAT is not the issue.. the real questions are..89Hen wrote:My turn to say answer the question... Do you honestly think the CAA of 2008 is anything like DII or the Yankee or even the A10?
1 - after seven plus years are you satisfied with the job KC Keeler has done relative to the building of a football program?
2 - are you confident that he has the ability to turn this program around?
I have to honestly answer no to both questions.

I'm very happy with two trips to Chatty, the other years are no fun, but mostly because I have to hear Hen fans gripe for 9 months. I still enjoy going to the games. I would like them to be better in those down years, but it all leads back to the question I alluded to earlier...ChickenMan wrote:1 - after seven plus years are you satisfied with the job KC Keeler has done relative to the building of a football program?

Would you rather have the Hens last 6 years (NC, runner-up, semi,6-5, 5-6, 4-8) or UNH's last 6 years (5 trips to playoffs with no semis, 5-7)?
For me, I'll take the Hens last 6 every time.
As for #2... only time will tell, but if it were up to a lot of fans, he'd be out of time.

Re: KC is Van Helsing
Just what makes you think KC is capable of repeating the '03 or even the '07 run? Since '03.. he has shown no ability to build his own program and you are more likely to hit the Power Ball then see another Joe Flacco in Newark. So what we really have to rely on is KC's very questionable ability to recruit.. retain and coach up his players. Unfortunatley I have not seen very much progresss in that area over the past five years. What I have consistantly seen from KC is that he needs superior players to achieve.. without that superior talent.. he is mediocre at best.89Hen wrote:[Would you rather have the Hens last 6 years (NC, runner-up, semi,6-5, 5-6, 4-8) or UNH's last 6 years (5 trips to playoffs with no semis, 5-7)?

Maybe I don't know enough about football, but I thought the 2009 signing class was outstanding. I've heard that KC song before.. in a couple of years we will actually see who can play and who can stay in school.

Well, now that statement could (and would) apply to any coach in America.ChickenMan wrote:What I have consistantly seen from KC is that he needs superior players to achieve.. without that superior talent.. he is mediocre at best.

Not true.. a good coach doesn't need 'superior ' talent to win and I don't mean a championship.. a good coach can produce a winning season with average or slightly better than average talent. KC's history indicates that if he's doesn't have great talent.. he's a .500 coach. UD has had that superior talent twice during KC's tenure '03 and '07 and KC was great then.. but when his talent level isn't significantly better than his peers he struggles.. as he is (32-29) for the rest of his career.AZGrizFan wrote:Well, now that statement could (and would) apply to any coach in America.ChickenMan wrote:What I have consistantly seen from KC is that he needs superior players to achieve.. without that superior talent.. he is mediocre at best.![]()

No.. I have no idea as to the character or academic qualities of the '09 class.. it does look great on paper. I was referring to KC's issues with player retention and development. All Hen fans realize that there have been major problems in that area before.
