Weak conference and out-of-conference schedule has gained Montana a guaranteed spot in the 2009 NCAA FCS Football Subdivision playoffs for the sixth straight year. Montana applied for their automatic automatic bid in August and it was granted without debate at the FCS football hearings in Indianapolis in early September. Stacked with Big Sky representatives, the measure had been long considered a foregone conclusion.
Coach Bobby Hauck, "We're elated to have the opportunity to compete with the best in FCS football in the playoffs. Mostly because we don't compete with anyone in the regular season. We'd like to thank Western Oregon, University of Puget Sound, Lewis and Clark College and Colorado State-Pueblo for this huge accomplishment, too. We share this with them."
"Like it's our fault, or something. Pffft."
