Big Sky:
Montana- (4-0, 2-0) The Griz dodged a bullet tonight in Flagstaff. A 47 yard FG by Northern Arizona with 2 seconds left sent the game to OT. In the first play of OT the Griz threw a screen pass that was cut back across the middle of the field for a TD. The Jacks first play almost went for a TD. If the WR hadn’t stepped out of bounds without anyone near him it would’ve been 6. Instead the Jacks had the ball at the 3 yard line. The next play was an INT and the game was over. This is the second Griz game I’ve watched and thus far they are the class of the Valley. NAU made some huge plays and looks to be much improved.

Wins: Western State 38-0 , UC Davis 17-10 , Portland State 49-17 , Northern Arizona 41-34 OT

Weber State- (2-2, 2-0) The Wildcats also had to pull a rabbit out of the hat to win tonight. After struggling with Idaho State in the first half last week (a game which they won 44-17), the Weber State defense let Portland State hang around all night. The Vikings pulled ahead 29-28 with 1:15 left in the game, but it was too much time for Higgins and the Wildcats as they scored the game winning TD with :15 left.

Wins: Idaho State 44-17 , Portland State 36-29
Losses: @ Wyoming 29-22 , @ Colorado State 24-23

Eastern Washington- (3-1, 2-0) The Eagles pounded Sacramento State tonight on their way to a 3 way tie for the Big sky. With the exception of getting pounded by Cal (who was no. 10 at the time), Eastern Washington has won every game by 2 scores or more. Too bad they’re not eligible for the playoffs.

Wins: Western Oregon 35-14, Northern Colorado 16-0, Sacramento State 56-30
Losses: @ No. 10 California 59-7

the Weber State defense let Portland State hang around all night.

It was a 97-yard kickoff return, followed immediately by an interception for a touchdown late in the third quarter that got Portland State back in the game and accounted for almost half of PSU's points. They weren't the fault of the defense, which played a pretty good game overall.

These two touchdown's set up a very good finish late in the fourth, with two good drives, one to give PSU a one-point lead and the other to give Weber the win.

Your original point about the WSU defense is still valid. Although the Wildcats held ground in critical situations, they still allowed the PSU offense a total of 477 yards, not including the kick return or interception yards.
