Week 3 - Conference by Conference Breakdown

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Big Sky

NCOL 0-16 EWU
IDST 17-44 WEB
SUU 39-42 NAU
PORTST 17-49 UMT

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 7-11

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 3-1

Best Performance: (#4) Montana 49, Portland St. 17 - Griz trail 14-0 but then find themselves and dominate thanks to 501 yards of offense, 4 forced turnovers, and 10 pass breakups.

Worst Performance: Northern Colorado 0, (#21) Eastern Washington 16 - The Bears commit 4 turnovers and suffer their seventh shutout loss since moving up.

Most Surprising Result: Portland St. 17, (#4) Montana 49 - Jerry Glanville should probably just take things one game at a time and ditch the obsession with beating Montana. The Viking margin of defeat to UM has greatly increased in each of the last 3 years and PSU's record is just 8-17 over that span.

Southland

TXST 21-56 TCU
SFA 40-30 WIU
UCA 28-7 WKU
SELA 6-52 MISS
UND 27-20 NWST

  • NConf Record: 3-4
    Overall: 11-10

    vs. FCS: 2-1
    Overall: 5-3

Best Performance: (#16) Central Arkansas 28, (FBS) Western Kentucky 7 - The Bears dominate the FCS alumni Hilltoppers despite running 21 fewer offensive plays.

Worst Performance: Northwestern St. 20, North Dakota 27 - Tyler Wolfe throws for 307 yards and 3 TDs in a losing effort.

Most Surprising Result: Northwestern St. 20, North Dakota 27 - The Demons get 11 more first downs and outgain the Sioux by 165 yards, but lose at home anyway.

Missouri Valley

WAG 28-59 NDSU
INST 0-41 SDKST
SFPA 0-30 UNI
MUR 10-35 MIZST
AP 7-38 ILST
SFA 40-30 WIU
SWBAP 7-59 SIU
YSU 38-21 NE

  • NConf Record: 6-1
    Overall: 11-12

    vs. FCS: 5-1
    Overall: 10-4

Best Performance: Youngstown St. 38, Northeastern 21 - Penguin QB Brandon Summers puts up 232 yards of total offense and 4 total touchdowns, one of which being a 73 yard run.

Worst Performance: Indiana St. 0, (#18) South Dakota St. 41 - Actually more lopsided than the score indicates due to the Sycamores being outgained 414-90.

Most Surprising Result: Illinois St. 38, Austin Peay 7 - It's surprising to see the Redbirds dominate like this after how terrible they played the first two weeks.

OVC

EIU 23-14 SEMO
JAXST 45-13 AAMU
TTU 7-17 EKU
MUR 10-35 MIZST
TSU 17-21 SU
UTM 14-41 MEM
AP 7-38 ILST

  • NConf Record: 1-4
    Overall: 9-12

    vs. FCS: 1-3
    Overall: 4-6

Best Performance: (#24) Jacksonville St. 45, Alabama A&M 13 - Ryan Perrilloux throws for 293 yards and 3 TDs on just 22 attempts as the Gamecocks stomp what looked to be the best team in the SWAC-East.

Worst Performance: Austin Peay 7, Illinois St. 38 - Governors run 32 times for just 14 yards against a team that gave up over 300 rushing ypg in the first two weeks.

Most Surprising Result: Austin Peay 7, Illinois St. 38 - The Governors get thrashed by a fellow bottom-dweller.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

Worst Performance: Southern Utah 39, Northern Arizona 42 - Cade Cooper throws for 425 yards and 4 TDs, but he can't quite lead the T-Birds back from two separate 21-point deficits.

Most Surprising Result: (#12) Cal Poly 10, (FBS) Ohio 28 - I didn't expect the Mustangs to win this one, but I did expect them to at least score an offensive touchdown and complete more than 1 out of 11 passes.

COLUM 40-28 FORD
BUCK 9-33 COR
COLG 34-15 DART

Worst Performance: Princeton 7, The Citadel 38 - The Tigers play The Citadel pretty even in the stats, but still get crushed on the scoreboard.

Most Surprising Result: Cornell 33, Bucknell 9 - The Big Red haven't exactly been great in Ivy League play recently, but they are 6-1 against the Patriot League over the last 3 years.

Worst Performance: Presbyterian 13, Tennessee-Chattanooga 29 - Blue Hose outgained 417-255 by the reigning SoCon doormat.

Most Surprising Result: Coastal Carolina 17, Towson 21 - Chanticleers lose to a team they beat 31-3 last season.

Most Surprising Result: Arkansas-Pine Bluff 27, Mississippi Valley St. 7 - After taking a thumping from a DII and struggling with an NAIA team, the Golden Lions rebound by dominating a conference opponent on the road.

How would we be the worst performance for coming back both times from 21 point deficits and nearly beating a pretty good NAU team? If anything that shows a team that doesnt give up and keeps fighting and massive improvement from years past...i just dont get it :twocents:

A. SUU had the only FCS loss in the Great West.

B. I don't think NAU is all that good this year.

It wasn't that bad of a loss, but still a worse performance than the rest of the conference.

Fighting to win is important, but so is not being down by 3 TDs in the first place.

MHEAD 13-10 NCCEN (2OT)

  • NConf Record: 3-2
    Overall: 12-10

    vs. FCS: 2-2
    Overall: 3-6

Best Performance: Dayton 21, Robert Morris 14 - After a shocking loss last week, the Flyer D gets things going as they hold RMU to 153 yards.

Worst Performance: Campbell 7, Davidson 24 - The Camels give up 24 second-half points to a team that hadn't scored in 10 quarters.

Most Surprising Result: Jacksonville 27, Old Dominion 28 - If the Dolphins truly are the favorites in the Pioneer League, that's a very depressing sign for a conference looking at a future auto-bid.

NEC

SFPA 0-30 UNI
DAY 21-14 RMU
MAINE 16-20 ALB
WAG 28-59 NDSU
DUQ 10-17 MONM

    vs. FCS: 1-3
    Overall: 4-15

Best Performance: Albany 20, Maine 16 - Vinny Esposito was terrible again (4 INTs), but the Danes nonetheless find a way to come back from a 16-0 halftime deficit and avoid an 0-3 start.

Worst Performance: Wagner 28, North Dakota St. 59 - The Seahawks allow Bison RB Pat Paschall to run for 167 yards and 2 TDs on just 10 carries.

Most Surprising Result: Robert Morris 14, Dayton 21 - The hard-luck Colonials now have three losses by a combined 11 points.

Independents

ODU 28-27 JVILLE
MHEAD 13-10 NCCEN (2OT)
SAVST 0-56 MCNSE

  • Non-Ind Record: 1-2
    Overall: 4-5

    vs. FCS: 1-2
    Overall: 1-5

Best Performance: Old Dominion 28, Jacksonville 27 - Monarchs run for 242 yards to get their first-ever FCS win.

Worst Performance: NC Central 10, Morehead St. 13 (2OT) - NCCU misses 3 field goals in this scoring-challenged affair.

Most Surprising Result: Old Dominion 28, Jacksonville 27 - The 3-0 Monarchs look poised to top the startup efforts of Coastal Carolina, who went 6-5 in their first season back in 2003.
