If that's true, and I don't think Maher would say it if it wasn't, it's just completely stupid. I have no problem with Muslim immigrants but you don't get to move to the US and then be offended by our values and acceptance of all including the LGBTQ+ community is and should be part of our values.

There is irony in you who doesn't agree with accepting the LTBGQ+ community trying to make a big deal out of it though.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Agreed. All religious fundamentalism from Christian’s to Muslims to Jews is antithetical to American bedrock values.

And Maher is a noted islamophobe and Zionist which disqualifies him from any thoughtful truth seeking.

lol it actually shows that Jeffries is smarter than I took him for. Apparently smarter that Mehdi and you, too.

Grok,
“How much would Medicare For All cost the US government?”
Estimates of the federal government’s net additional cost for a Medicare for All (single-payer) system typically fall in the range of roughly $25–40 trillion over 10 years, with some more recent projections higher, depending on design details and assumptions.
Given the govt’s track record of programs costing more than projected, probably higher (cough cough Obamacare). We are 40 trillion in debt, which had been going up at roughly the same percentage rate for the last 5 presidencies. CBO (under Biden) stated in 2023 that Medicare and SSI (mostly Medicare) was projected by the CBO to account for 80% of the deficits rise between 2023-2032 (web search it) and you want to exponentially expand Medicare :suspicious: :dunce: And whatever ‘taxing the rich/making the rich and corporations pay their fair share’ claptrap you want to spout out won’t change the fact there isn’t enough $$$ on the Magic $$$$ trees in DC to pay for Medicare for All, and Hakeem knows it. But Mehdi, you, and most of the rest of the donk party don’t do math well. Heck, I’ll grant that a plurality of the conk party doesn’t either, so that’s most of the electorate. Which got us to where we are at.

How much is Whiskeyleaks asking for? Criticize that if you want to prove that you really care about the debt.

The question isn't how much would single-payer cost, it's can the government raise that money in new taxes or reallocated funding while reducing private healthcare spending by enough that Americans collectively come out ahead?

lol in your rainbows and unicorns question. The debt train could be slowed down, might be sped up, but it isn’t going to be stopped before it gets to that cliff in the next couple of decades. Smoke em if you got em..

Simmer down. A quick search shows only estimates. Why? Because as Grok also implies, a fair projection is impossible until we see detailed plans. Yale School of Medicine estimates $1 trillion annual savings. The CBO’s ranges from $42-$743 billion.

We do know two things. Every developed country except ours spends + or - half of what we currently spend. They have many differences in their approach to funding it.

So unless you hate America as much as Trump, it’s clear we CAN do it and save a ton of money.

Our current system is barbaric. It is designed to benefit for profit health insurance, hedge funds, and big pharma. This was true of Obamacare as well.

Funny that maQa calls their own words (unhinged radical or extremist) against them "crying". Should we go through your posts to see how many times you've used them to see how many times you "cried"?

I'm conservative and liberal and I much prefer them to fascism.

And all of those countries are a fraction of the population of the US, are far whiter, and WAY less obese.

It’s clear as day you‘re :dunce: if you think the US can save a ton of $ doing it given our population size, demographics, unhealthy lifestyles with high obesity levels. If we had single payer those without means would have shitty healthcare, with draconian levels of rationing and wait periods. Anyone with means would still have private health insurance with far superior health care & without the rationing and wait times. And people of your ilk would still be crying about the unfairness of it all.

We’ve been through this a thousand times. Your reasoning is irrational and based solely in tribalism. We are a nation of states. Smart ones are already moving toward this. Canada’s system started with one province. It worked so well the rest came on board. All of those draconian rules, wait periods etc still produce better superior outcomes with things like longer lifespans and reduced instances of infant mortality. Wait lines? Have you been referred to a specialist lately? Can you visit your pcp next week or do have to wait a month? You hang your hat on the unhealthy lifestyle of Americans? Fine! Then join me in reducing high fat red meat consumption, GMO’s, processed foods and improved and stronger regulation by the USDA/FDA. Let’s get America healthy baby! I’ll send you a copy of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring and The Smiths Meat is Murder album.

Every citizen bitches about their country’s healthcare. If you don’t realize that ours is set up for profit and to deny service referrals you are highly unaware.

Yeah it works so well that Canadians with $$$ flock to the US for health care (esp specialized procedures) due to the extreme wait times and rationing. https
https://ibu.ca/blog/problems-with-the-c ... re-system/
Yet that US health care benefit still factors into the Canadian outcome stat.

2009 tore a bicep on a Sunday (not an emergency). Called the orthopedist office that Monday. Met orthopedist that Tues. Operated that Wednesday. Zero chance that happens under Single Payer.

2022 inguinal hernia (not an emergency). Talked to PCP‘s office on the Mon before Thanksgiving. Course I wasn’t going to be able to see the PCP for weeks or months. Saw nurse practitioner & tested before Thanksgiving. Went on <2 week vacation right after Thanksgiving. Came back, tested right after I came back, saw gastro, scheduled & had surgery before New Year’s for triple inguinal hernia (all UPENN). So less than 6 week period. If it wasn’t for Thanksgiving, vacation, X-Mas, would have been under a month. Does that happen under single payer? I doubt it.

Of course wait times have increased in the last 15 years for PCP and Specialists (Obamacare, aging population, fattening population, not enough docs, etc). Single payer would not lessen wait times, would only increase them.

And meat. It’s what’s for dinner. Newsflash: America‘s obesity epidemic isn‘t because of eating too much meat or red meat .‘Meat is Murder’ what a bunch of leftist nonsense lol. It’s sedentary lifestyle plus too much carbs (esp ‘bad carbs‘) & processed foods (as you mentioned).

Of course wait times have increased in the last 15 years for PCP and Specialists (Obamacare, aging population, fattening population, not enough docs, etc). Single payer would not lessen wait times, would only increase them.

And meat. It’s what’s for dinner.
Blah, blah, blah…and I had to wait months for my inguinal hernia surgery.

Have you ever heard of outliers?

And you’d think after 30 years of the “but Canada” excuse, their entire system would collapse. Talk to the average Brit and they’ll complain endlessly about the NHS. Yet here we are with a below average system. The differences between anecdotal evidence fact driven data.

And if beef is for dinner more than a few times per month, be ready for a variety of chronic illnesses. There are more cows on earth than humans for fucks sake.

Seared Ahi tuna and salad fresh from the garden is what’s for dinner.

I doubt it.

You can decry anecdotal, but while most Americans rate the US health care system poorly, most are satisfied with THEIR OWN health care.

Most Americans Are Happy With Health Insurance, Poll Finds

…..The poll, conducted by NBC News Decision Desk and SurveyMonkey, found 82% of U.S. adults are satisfied with their health insurance overall. About 1 in 3 said they are very satisfied….

Americans Broadly Rate Their Own Healthcare Quality and Coverage Positively

In contrast to their largely negative assessments of the quality and coverage of healthcare in the U.S., broad majorities of Americans continue to rate their own healthcare’s quality and coverage positively. Currently, 71% of U.S. adults consider the quality of healthcare they receive to be excellent or good, and 65% say the same of their own coverage. There has been little deviation in these readings since 2001...

The satisfaction numbers are significantly lower and things like cost are 82 points toward dissatisfaction.

Diet plays a WAY more important role than lifestyle. This is an area I know something about. And the typical American diet is outrageously unhealthy. I’m not against meat. If I could still eat beef and pork I would as a cheat and with beef or venison it would be lean cuts. Red meat increases the risks of not only heart disease but colorectal cancer, and liver disease.

We are omnivores living in a hunter-gatherer platform. Similar to bears, nuts, berries, and bugs were a large part of the protein intake. Animal protein was less common as it required more effort and was less available. The two healthiest diets in the world are the Mediterranean and Japanese. Tons of seafood, a few meats, some grains, and fruits and vege.

Wrong, the satisfaction numbers aren‘t significantly lower. NBC poll I cited had it at 82%. Gallup has it worded differently but 73% rate theirs as Excellent or Good.

Overall, how would you rate [ROTATED: the quality of healthcare you receive/your healthcare coverage] — as excellent, good, only fair or poor?
Excellent: 27%
Good 46%
Fair: 20%
Poor: 5%
NA: 2%
No Opinion: 1%

Ok, 82% bitch about costs. What percent in Canada and the UK bitch about wait times and rationing?

The Mediterranean Diet does include some poultry & red meat. It is low on carbs and doesn‘t include the bad carbs & processed.

I think you’re looking at different questions than I am and maybe not all of them considered together to tell the entire story. I do t have time right now but I’ll post some additional later.

As for the Med diet, yeah like I said regarding meat in general.

The frame work is the typical American diet in general and it’s far less healthy than the Med. Just because the Japanese like Kobe beef doesn’t change the facts.

Every citizen bitches about their country’s healthcare. If you don’t realize that ours is set up for profit and to deny service referrals you are highly unaware.
Forgot to respond to this earlier. I‘m glad it’s set up for profit. Guess what private market profit motive and competition does? It creates the incentive for innovation. Guess who leads the world in medical innovation, to include medical device and pharmaceutical development? The good ol USA.(Yeah the rest of the world takes advantage of that) That level of innovation doesn‘t happen without profit motive in the system. Thats just basic economics for any area of the economy- profit motive & competition drives innovation.

That wouldn't be fair - how about one wish list item from maQa Republicans and one wish list item from liberal Democrats? You'd get your voting limitations (trump will have to go to the polls) and liberals will get some version of Medicare for all.

Innovation is great? It can be a strong product of competition and capitalism.

1). Guess what profit motive also does? It needlessly kills 100’s of people. It’s the primary cause of why most bankruptcies are medical.

2). Innovation also comes from non-profit entities like Universities and foundations. Universities are funded by government so it’s another case of socialism for corporations and the investor class and capitalism for everyone else.

3). Do you think all of the Doge de-funding and tariffs will have a positive effect on our status in the world scientific community?
