To whit:

Today, July 6th, the president of the United States posted a video of little children graduating kindergarten in St. Paul, Minnesota, mocking the little girls who were wearing hijab‘s.

I’m not going to post the picture of the post here because I don’t believe it’s right to repost pictures of people’s children without permission, especially on such a large platform. I will include a link to the president’s post below.

As a pastor and as an American, I’m just so appalled by the continued, willful lack of character and decency of the most powerful person in our country. To go after children simply because of their religious beliefs and practices is not only completely disgraceful, it is absolutely unacceptable from the leader of the United States that is built on religious freedom.

Yet even though I’m appalled by this continued behavior, it isn’t surprising. It hasn’t been surprising since 2016. What continues to be baffling is wondering when people will draw the line and hold him accountable for his behavior. It should have been long before 2016, but it is a perfect opportunity to do so now as well.

To my Muslim friends, you are created in God’s image. You do not deserve to have your children or your faith mocked by anyone, especially not by the leader of your country. As a Christian, I can’t imagine if the president mocked my children for wearing crosses or holding their Bibles at their graduation. Or mocked Orthodox Christian girls for covering their heads during their graduation, which is also their religious custom.

Please know that there are many of us working tirelessly to uphold the separation of church and state and to advocate religious freedom for all people in our country. No religious group deserves to be targeted by the president of the United States as these little Muslim children were today.

The fact that this is where we are should bring deep sorrow and concern to every American’s heart. The fact that on America’s 250th birthday we had hundreds of white supremacist carrying confederate flags in Italian fascist flags on our nations capital chatting anti-immigrant slurs then today, the president who never condemned that march is now mocking Muslim children on his platform that is followed by millions of people should cause every decent American to be appalled.

Furthermore, it should cause every decent Christian in America to be appalled, because this administration continues to conduct itself under the banner of “Christian.”

This is what Christian Nationalism looks like. This is not Christian. This is not American. This is not freedom. This is an embarrassment to all things good. This can only breed more hatred, more hostility, and more violence.

May we continue to diligently work to turn the tide away from this towards peace, towards liberty, and towards freedom.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.

And most of those are SMALL countries under 10 million population. The biggest populations ahead for the US, France and UK, are under 70 million according to World Population Review. The US is just south of 350 million. So for countries over 70 million, ie any decent sized population country in the world, the median net worth of the US is #1. For countries over 100 million, no one is even in the same stratosphere as the US.
