Nice win for the Pokes. It will be interesting to see how they move up in the rankings.

I'm just poking at you T-bag. It was a hell of a game and a hell of an effort by both teams.

It's going to be an ugly two weeks in App Land (we have a bye next week before hosting Samford).

I still think App St will be a force to be reckoned with before the season is over. But in the tough Socon their margin of error is getting pretty small. I think they need to win 8 of their last 9 to guarantee a playoff bid. They can definitely do that.
Congrats to NcNeese on a nice win.

Yes it will....offense looked good....T-Dog wrote:It's going to be an ugly two weeks in App Land (we have a bye next week before hosting Samford).
special teams wasn't horrid, just crappy. they didn't give up a TD KO return, but cowpokes started on the 50yd line seemed like everytime and we missed a FG....just the normal crappy special teams I've grown used to...
defense was unbelievably bad....I mean, just absolutely horrid....pathetic...pitiful....I'd say they were a bunch of women, but don't want to offend Catmom....seriously, they were 11 little pvssies running around arm-tackling (when they could actually make contact)....over the next two weeks, App should focus on teaching the offense the defensive schemes and just allow the current defensive starters to try out for the cheerleading or volleyball team....our defense sucks...I was excited about about the returning starters we had on defense until I remembered just how crappy they were last year...thank god for our offense...seriously, our defensive scheme in the last two minutes shoudl be allow the team to score so our offense can get the ball back...we'll just have to teach our offense a 2-minute slow down formation to keep our defense off the field.....unbelievable...
BTW, Congrats McNeese & Southland...you certainly exceeded my expectations and deserve the accolades...you showed up ready to play and deserve this hard-fought win...excellent win and good showing by your fans....

The tough Socon? Have you seen the GaSout score? The Gardner-Webb/Western Carolina score? Not to mention our debacle....the Socon will be a battle of futility this year....BlueHen86 wrote:I still think App St will be a force to be reckoned with before the season is over. Socon or App's defense....looks a little too tough to be App's defense, but who knows...

Re: McNeese @ App State Game Thread
This is what happens when you stubbornly run a 4-3 with straight man coverage regardless of the personnel lined across from you on offense. I think the coaches call it a nickel and claim one of the linebackers is a bandit, but that's a lot of ridiculous bullshit is what that is. It's an even front with three big slow guys between the tackles, and it dates back to fucking Leviticus.
In practice, this philosophy means you get to try out all kinds of goofy shit, like linebackers covering slot receivers man-up, which, lemme tell you, is regular retarded laugh riot. Watching our linebackers trying to cover halfbacks catching swing passes today was like falling down on upbound escalator and racking your nuts on every single step repeatedly and in perpetuity, forever and ever, amen. We refuse to change anything because THAT DEFENSE IS OUR TEAM'S PERSONAL IDENTITY AND WE DON'T BELIEVE IN NO GOTDAMNED QUEER-ASS TRANSSEXUAL HORSESHIT. I'm glad I'm here to explain all this to you people.

WTF is wrong with this picture when I can get 15-18 yr olds with pussy on the brain to squeeze a down block or cover a fucking back across their face, and our coaches can't get kids with tons more ability to do the same?

Re: McNeese @ App State Game Thread
I've long defended our coaching staff's ability to be prepared and have the team ready, but in truth, our players have not been ready for the last two games and against McNeese, it seemed we made no adjustments to what they were doing on offense. I'm fed up with our defensive staff's ability to prepare and adjust. Our defense is full of supposed playmakers, but I sure didn't see it Saturday. It's time to take a long hard look at some stuff.

Re: McNeese @ App State Game Thread
Amen. That's my problem....is it the coaches? or these supposed"playmakers" we have on defense? Maybe our defensive players just aren't as good as advertised....similar to the Notre Dame syndrome in football or Duke syndrome in basketball where, the mere fact that they signed with App, got them a higher rating as a HS player...seriously, our defense hasn't been good in two years...even the Wofford game last year where we were so dominate, we allowed 24 pts and almost 300 yds rushing....after this many games (not just this year), I think we App fans might need to resign ourselves to the fact that we have a sh!tty defense....BeauFoster wrote:I've long defended our coaching staff's ability to be prepared and have the team ready, but in truth, our players have not been ready for the last two games and against McNeese, it seemed we made no adjustments to what they were doing on offense. McNeese tops ASU, Edwards in shootout
BOONE
Armanti Edwards returned yesterday and performed well, but he couldn't help Appalachian State's defense stop McNeese State.
The No. 16 Cowboys rolled into town and rolled up 522 yards on the way to a stunning 40-35 victory over the No. 2 Mountaineers.
The Cowboys drove 79 yards in the final two minutes for a decisive field goal with four seconds left, essentially ending a back-and-forth shootout.
"It was hard because we were trying to gain momentum and they'd go right back down and take the momentum back," said Edwards, the Mountaineers' All-America quarterback who missed all of preseason camp with a foot injury but totaled 307 yards in his first game since December.
The Mountaineers fell to 0-2 for the first time in six years -- and 0-8 vs. teams from Louisiana -- in front of a crowd of 27,914 that turned out for the team's home opener.
"It never feels good to lose, especially at home," said running back Devon Moore, who rushed for 155 yards on 23 carries. "They were just the better team this game."
Coach Matt Viator, whose Cowboys improved to 2-0, said: "It's really big for us to beat App State in Boone. Especially with the way we played last week, we should have gotten beat by a Division II school (Henderson State). We had a little gut check this week."
Offense was well ahead of defense for both teams.
The Cowboys' Derrick Fourroux completed 25 of 34 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns. Todd Pendland rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns and caught 10 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
"We ran a lot of zone plays, and the offensive line gave me a big enough hole," Pendland said. "We were able to run a lot of screens and that worked…. We beat a good team, but I'm not surprised. The sky's the limit from here on out."
Edwards showed no apparent lingering effects from a cut to his right sustained in a lawn-mowing accident on Aug. 5. Edwards began practicing full-time last week and started yesterday, and played the full game, after missing the season opener against East Carolina.
He was 19 of 25 passing for 235 yards, and rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.
"I thought Armanti played extremely well," Jerry Moore said. "I think after the first quarter he looked his old self."
Both teams looked unstoppable at times. Both scored on four of their five second-half possessions, but it was McNeese that scored last.
"They were the last team to get the ball and they did what they had to do," ASU cornerback Ed Gainey said. "Everything went wrong. It was just mental. For some reason a lot of people out there weren't focused, including me."
