Not to mention the court challenges to come. There is a long road ahead.

I love it when the GOP plays by the lefts rules! Need more of it in every area except the violence. Maybe only 85% of what the left does there just to balance the scales a bit

This is what makes it a non-starter for Democrats. They won't willingly handicap their already existing super majorities in their states.UNI88 wrote:There’s Only One Real Way for Democrats to Disarm Texas Gerrymandering
Then the new system would add a critical, novel factor: The commission must draw congressional districts to ensure national partisan balance so the percentage of Republican and Democratic seats in Congress closely corresponds to the number of votes for Republicans and Democrats nationwide.

Interesting idea and fair to both parties. It puts the pressure back on the R’s to do the right thing. Not that that matters, haha.UNI88 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 11:36 am There’s Only One Real Way for Democrats to Disarm Texas Gerrymandering
There is a way out of this death spiral. It involves a simple concept: automation. By enacting a law that would automatically gerrymander California’s maps if and only if Republican-controlled legislatures do so first, California officials can make clear that the choice is entirely in the hands of Republican state legislators. In other words, just as automated nuclear retaliation systems helped prevent a horrific strike during the Cold War, a similar approach can stop the gerrymandering race to the bottom before it’s too late.
Here’s how the plan would work. A blue state like California, or perhaps New York, could adopt a system similar to the one it presently has, with an independent bipartisan commission drawing the state’s congressional map. Like the current system, the law could require the commission to account for certain criteria like making districts contiguous and compact. Then the new system would add a critical, novel factor: The commission must draw congressional districts to ensure national partisan balance so the percentage of Republican and Democratic seats in Congress closely corresponds to the number of votes for Republicans and Democrats nationwide.

Re: 2025/2026 Elections Congressional & State
Nah, it's a dumb idea. First of all, it doesn't address any of the gerrymandering that has gone on up until this time. While the Texas thing is shocking in that it's happening mid-cycle of the 10 year census, it's not any different than the brazen gerrymandering that both parties do at the 10 year census mark anyway. It's not stopping gerrymandering and it just legitimizes the gerrymandering that is already in place in most every state. Second, it robs the ability of states to determine their own path in terms of how they want to be represented. This is still a federal system, and there are 50 states that come together in this - locking representation to a national balance would rob voters of the chance to be represented by who they wanted to be represented by. And third, we already hew pretty closely to the national numbers anyway. Things have been pretty polarized over the past election cycles, and you can see it in the House today with the extremely slim margins, and they've been slim for awhile now. But that doesn't mean it will always be that way.kalm wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 2:34 pmInteresting idea and fair to both parties. It puts the pressure back on the R’s to do the right thing. It works just fine. It'll still be working when the current occupant of the White House vacates it in 2029. Disagreeing with the politics does not mean the system of government isn't, well, still governing. Mid terms are next year, the system keeps churning.

How will it be working? Like presidential immunity? Corporate personhood and campaign corruption? Federal troops on the streets? Suspending habeas corpus? Lower taxes in perpetuity for all income levels while tariffs are magically absorbed by manufacturers, importers, and retailers?GannonFan wrote: ↑Fri Aug 22, 2025 8:42 amIt works just fine. None of this is fine.

Hitler had an unprecedented opportunity, such as no man will ever again be offered so easily, to create something entirely new. However, besides the fact that he knows absolutely nothing about matters economic, he cannot even fully understand his economic advisers. . . . His constant worry has ever been to keep himself in power. . . . He believes that he alone is a great man, and all others non-entities.

Re: 2025/2026 Elections Congressional & State
Presidential immunity, as it was ruled, has always been there. Corporate personhood has been an active legal precedent in the US for almost 150 years. Campaign corruption has been an issue in this country even longer. Federal troops on the street is an issue and should be pushed back against with all the legal force as possible. Just the same with habeas corpus. And you of all people have little to no standing complaining about an economic system of leveraging access to American markets with significant and lopsided tariffs, considering the economic steps being taken are almost in lockstep with what you've advocated for in these forums for years as you targeted and attacked free trade. And it won't exist in perpetuity, that's just asinine, nothing can be "magically absorbed" and markets will correct.kalm wrote: ↑Fri Aug 22, 2025 8:59 amHow will it be working?
