Rooting against the USA again are you

Horrible
No, I'm rooting against the POTUS being a moron and putting the US in a compromised position.

A smart POTUS would have worked with our allies like Canada and the EU to use tariffs against china, russia, etc. rather than picking fights with almost everyone on the planet.
You call picking fights. I call it fighting for the USA.

The part you always miss.

The Democrats only chance of regaining any type of credibility is to start working with Trump. There’s no other way out of the hole they’ve dug themselves into.

Fighting Trump at every turn is not working well for them.
Walsh is a former Republican representative.

Trumps immigration rating is below 40 approve and over 60 disapprove.

Economic and tariffs poll only slightly higher.

Trump’s policies are not what Americans want either.

E-books are on the line as Congress considers future of library funding
The Institute for Museum and Library Services, a tiny, little-known federal agency, provides grants to states that account for 30% to 50% of state library budgets, according to the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies.

For decades it has distributed hundreds of millions of dollars in congressionally approved funds through grants to state libraries in all 50 states and Washington, DC, and to library, museum and archives programs. It serves 35,000 museums and 123,000 libraries across the country, according to its website.

The impact of losing the money will be different in each state because each spends its portion of the funding differently.

Some will have to fire staff and end tutoring and summer reading programs. Others will cut access to electronic databases, end intra-library loans or reduce access to books for the deaf and blind. Many will have to stop providing internet service for rural libraries or e-book access statewide.
trump's continues his assault on knowledge, learning, and intellectual development.

When Bank of America had to pay $30+ billion in fines, penalties, and settlements for breaking federal law due to the subprime mortgage crisis, that wasn't authoritarianism.
When BP hat to pay $20+ billion to settle environmental claims, including the largest fine ever for violating the Clean Water Act for its role in the Deepwater Horizon disaster, that wasn't authoritarianism, either.

Yet, authoritarianism is on full display when the feds fine Columbia University when it breaks federal anti-discrimination laws. :suspicious:

Please explain this awkward line of reasoning.
Baldy, you're not this stupid or obtuse. You know it isn't that simple.

First, the trump regime used withholding federal funding as leverage to force Columbia University to settle. Did Columbia settle because of the merits of the case or because the school year is about to start and they need the funding? This could be called extortion and also a step toward authoritarianism.

Second, the fact that this country has shit on black people for hundreds of years can't be disputed. They were enslaved for hundreds of years (since before the founding of the nation) and then severely oppressed after they were freed (Jim Crow laws, voting suppression, redlining, etc.). This oppression has put them behind the 8-ball when it comes to wealth creation, making higher education (and home ownership) harder to obtain. You can argue that we've done enough and it was time to stop but I don't think you can argue that it was it wrong to attempt to help them catch up (education).

FTR I'm for equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. Education is a key part of America being the Land of Opportunity.
Columbia needs federal funding? They have a $15,000,000,000 endowment. Harvard is not settling and taking it to court.

They're scared to take it to court because judging by their statement: "...Jewish students and faculty have experienced painful, unacceptable incidents, and that reform was and is needed”, they don't like their chances if it ever got in front of a judge or jury.

Black people? The anti-discrimination allegations are due to the antisemitic discrimination and harassment Jewish students and staff received from the 'protestors'.

The majority of that endowment has donor imposed restrictions. Only a small percentage is “unrestricted” and available for general use. They also have spending rules that limit how much they can use in a year and a fiduciary duty to preserve it for future generations.

Yes, Black people. Unless the settlement had no impact on Columbia's DEI or race-based programs.

I wouldn't put it past Trump and his administration to be making moves to convince Powell he has to lower rates in September. Granted, he probably should've already lowered rates, but he likely didn't want to seem to be goaded into it by Trump saying he should. With that said, I think it's a foregone conclusion now that rates will be lowered the next time the Fed meets - a lot of weakness in terms of business spending with this last GDP and now with the job numbers. Again, the Fed might be too slow getting the rates lowered given what the numbers are showing. But as I said, they're also very likely reluctant to make it seem like they're following Trump's orders.

I don't think the Fed should lower rates. trump has been too unpredictable with his tariffs and his pauses. They need to see more concrete results before they can make that move.

Trump extends Mexico trade deadline on ‘TACO Thursday’
The nickname TACO, short for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” stems from the president’s habit of making tariff threats, resulting in a drop in the markets, only for him to change course and see the markets rebound.
