Albany vs Georgia Southern

Post by SUUTbird »

Danes doing well tied 26-26 with the Eagles, i cant stop laughing at these announcers on Channelsurfing.net, totally biased and saying how they "shouldnt be tied with this team" . Looks like everyone is underestimating Albany, GO DANES! :thumb:

Thanks for the support, bobby...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...the Albany program is on track to be a great one...

We've played them enough that UMass will not under estimate them...will they beat the Danes...tune in next Saturday to find out....

It's nothing agaonst you Col. I/we really don't like Umass and it's natural to root for someone on your schedule to win out after beating them.

Watch out for their backup QB. #10. Dude ran at will when he was in. I spoke to the father of the #2 running back before the game and he said that McCarty (sp) was playing with a pulled hamstring. If he plays like that hurt, I'd hate to see him at 100%.

I woke up sick this morning.

We gave GSU 9 points....gave it to them.

A pick 6 on 3rd and long from their own endzone - should have ran the ball and punted away.

A block PAT and Albany's entire team stood around and let the GSU guy pick up the ball and run for 2.

They gave away 9 points and lost by 3. Albany should have won the game.
Held GSU to 58 rushing yards and gave up 2 big passing plays that amounted to 70+ yards of the 259 total.

Time of possession favored Albany by 8 minutes.

A good game, but very disappointing loss for Albany. The game should have been 17-3 at halftime and they then could have run the clock down in the 2nd half and would not have to had to go to the passing game with an injured QB who never was a gamechanger.

The bright spot for Albany is that we've found our future - QB Andrew Smith. RFr.....8 carries for 101 rushing yards and a TD. 140 kick return yards as well. for a 240 all-purpose yards game in his first ever college game.

I feel the same way this morning....we gave the game to K-State with a couple of mistakes in the 2nd Q (and one bad call IMHO)...

Our defense held K-State to ZERO points in the second half....and I think discovered just what they are capable of doing...

I can't wait for the Danes to visit Amherst next week....should be a good match... :thumb:

Albany's mistakes certainly cost them but the truth is that GSU's QB Lee Chapple and the GSU offense was 12-12 passing in the fourth quarter with 3 big third down conversions and scored on both drives to get the win. Albany's experienced team made the big mistakes, GSU's team with 84 FR, RSFR and SOPH's (not a typo- 84 players Soph or younger) made the big plays in the clutch.

The plays in question- the pick 6 and the returned conversion- were both set up by big GSU plays. First the pick six was set up by a 64 yard punt that rolled out of bounds on the Albany one, then on third and six the QB was flushed and made a poor throw under pressure that was picked and returned. The blocked XP was a case of a DT overpowering his man and GSU was fortunate enough to have the ball bounce to their kickoff return man, of whom Albany had nobody who would catch him once he gets a step.

Of course the big play thing works both ways too... 69 of Albany's 319 yards came on a fake punt and a fourth and one where the initial surge was stopped and the true freshman DE unnecessarily crashed the dive and lost contain allowing the QB to bounce the play for a TD.

Speaking of time of possession, GSU held the ball 9:32 of the fourth quarter when it mattered the most and scored on both fourth quarter possessions to win.

Albany was a whole lot better than I thought they would be and they will win some games, and if they win the two CAA games they might be a playoff team. I likened them to the 1998 Colgate team that GSU played in the first round that year, but the bottom line is Albany's defense couldn't get GSU's offense off the field in the fourth quarter and GSU made the clutch plays to earn the win- the plays they didn't make last year in the SoCon losses.

No doubt about it Blueballs - the ridiculous punt (which didn't need to be touched by the GSU player to go out of bounds, btw - that's how good it was) set up the situation that put Albany on their own goalline. However, that pass he threw was really bad. They should have just ran the ball and punted away. At that point in the game GSU had nothing to offer on offense.

And, BTW, McCarty definitely looked hurt to me, as was rumored. He looked slow and couldn't change direction too well. Honestly - it was the worst I've ever seen him look. Also evidenced by the fact that Gannon got so many carries as a backup.

It was a great game, but its just such a sour taste in Albany fan's mouths. We gave away (in our minds) the first step on the road to an at-large. Now we're behind the 8-ball and have to win 2 games and hope for you guys to play awesome the rest of the year. I just hope that happens and I'm certainly an Eagle fan from here on out.

Couple of my buddies partook in the red-flag tailgate also and said they had one of the best gameday experiences they've ever had. Kudos! :thumb:

One of the Dane players told one of our players after the game that McCarty had a pulled hammy and was slowed all week leading up to the game.

I hope the Dane fans came take whatever solace is possible from this statement from a longtime GSU fan and booster: your team would compete and compete well in the SoCon. Your team is every bit as good as GSU, Elon, Samford, Furman and Wofford. App with Edwards would be a tough matchup for you but you would be competitive with them too.

I thought your team was very well coached, played hard and with class. The GSU folks will be your biggest fans from here on. Now go beat those two CAA teams!

I'm glad some other folks are starting to see what Albany has been doing the past few years...

Too many people have considered them one of our "cupcakes"....Albany is far from that...they are a program to be watched now and into the future....

Having said that...next week they will really be tested, IMHO...
