LAF 21-20 COLG
LEH 10-7 HC

  • NConf Record: 0-0

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 13-19

Best Performance: Lehigh 10, Holy Cross 7 - The Mountain Hawks hold their 2nd. straight opponent to single digits and beat Holy Cross for the first time in 7 years.

Worst Performance: Colgate 20, Lafayette 21 - The Raiders blow a 13-point fourth-quarter lead and fall to 2-8.

Most Surprising Result: (Super Close Games) - All 3 Patriot League games were decided by a total of 5 points—I don't know if that's the fewest ever for a full week of games (it would likely take me longer to look that up than it takes to do this entire post), but it's gotta be close.

NEC

RMU 6-31 DUQ
lincca 0-66 MERCY
LIU 28-7 SACHRT
CCSU 21-17 SHILL

  • NConf Record: 2-0

    Overall: 8-16

Best Performance: (#25) Duquesne 31, Robert Morris 6 - 3 touchdown catches by John Erby plus 3 sacks (& a forced fumble) by Jack Dunkley equals sole possession of first place for the Dukes.

Worst Performance: Stonehill 17, Central Connecticut St. 21 - This was actually Stonehill's first game of the season to be decided by single digits. :geek: :?

    Most Surprising Result: (none)

CAA

ALB 6-24 SBU
MONM 20-33 UNH
BRY 26-38 MAINE
URI 21-24 UD
HAMP 10-27 TOW
ELON 40-36 W&M
RICH 27-24 CAMP

  • NConf Record: 0-1

    Overall: 29-14

Best Performance: Elon 40, (#20) William & Mary 36 - In a back-and-forth contest, Matthew Downing hit Onuma Dieke in the endzone from 15 yards out with 5 seconds left—his 4th. TD pass of the game— to finish off a Phoenix upset.

Worst Performance: Bryant 26, Maine 38 - The Bulldogs did own the second half, but a 35-0 halftime deficit was obviously too much to overcome.

Most Surprising Result: (#20) William & Mary 36, Elon 40 - With 4 overall losses and 3 CAA losses already, the Tribe will have to beat Richmond at the end of the season to have any real hope of making the playoffs.

Big South/OVC

SEMO 12-24 LIND
TSU 45-20 WIU
EIU 28-31 GWEBB
UTM 40-14 CHSO
TTU 27-7 SAM

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 14-21

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 12-9

Best Performance: Lindenwood 24, (#6) Southeast Missouri St. 12 - The Lion defense, which was allowing 437 yards-per-game, holds a SEMO offense that was averaging 409 ypg to just 234 total yards.

Worst Performance: Western Illinois 20, Tennessee St. 45 - Penalties can be a huge factor: the Leathernecks lost penalties 12-5 in a game that was otherwise statistically even, and they ended up getting thumped.

Most Surprising Result: (#6) Southeast Missouri St. 12, Lindenwood 24 - This defeat didn't cost the Redhawks much in their pursuit of a conference title (they're still tied for first and holding the tiebreaker), but it may have cost them a good shot at a first-round bye.

SoCon

MER 34-0 VMI
UTC 31-7 CIT
WOFF 19-13 FUR
TTU 27-7 SAM
WCU 21-24 ETSU

    vs. FCS: 0-1
    Overall: 11-12

Best Performance: (#23) Tennessee-Chattanooga 31, The Citadel 7 - The Mocs dominate the second half against a Bulldog squad that had actually been pretty competitive this season.

Worst Performance: Samford 7, Tennessee Tech 27 - The Bulldogs put up just 184 yards against a 4-5 opponent.

Most Surprising Result: Samford 7, Tennessee Tech 27 - Samford has become the Weber State of the SoCon: since their 20-point beatdown of first-place Mercer, the Bulldogs have lost 3 in a row to non-contenders.

Three games in this category that surprised me the most:
  • Bucknell d. Fordham
    Lehigh d. Holy Cross
Long Island/C.W. Post d. Sacred Heart
The history isn't there for these results, particularly for C.W. Post. It's not all that long ago that we were seeing Fordham, Holy Cross, and Sacred Heart in the playoffs.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

    vs. FCS: 0-1
    Overall: 7-8
