All About Believing: New A&T Coach Wants Commitment

Post by Appaholic »

A&T coach Lee says that turning around the program will come once the Aggies commit themselves to winning

The message on the cover of the N.C. A&T media guide -- "Rebuilding the Legacy" -- offers hope.

It has a nice ring to it, but is it possible with yet another head coach taking over?

Alonzo Lee became the Aggies' third head coach since 2003, and he has vowed to change the perception of a program that was once an annual contender in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Lee, who built his reputation as a defensive coordinator at Hampton, Morgan State and also at N.C. A&T, has been energetic since replacing the fired Lee Fobbs. He said during the summer that he was so fired up about Saturday's opener against Winston-Salem State at Bowman Gray Stadium that he and his players would jog from Greensboro to play the game if they had to.

Lee has a big task ahead. A&T has a 3-31 record the past three seasons, including 0-11 finishes in 2006 and 2007.

"The biggest key for us is being able to get these guys to believe and have a winning attitude," said Lee, who spent the past three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Morgan State. "We believe that the attitude comes from the discipline and hard work."
